Deacon A.D. Moss Jr., (82) was born October 6, 1941 to Adolphus and Lula Corine Moss in Hernando, MS. Deacon Moss was educated in the Shelby County school district and graduated from Geeter High School. He enjoyed sports, singing and making sure that his family and friends were good.
Deacon Moss married the love of his life on September 9, 1965 during his time serving in the United States Army. Deacon Moss was a great husband, father, brother, friend, provider, and a man of few, but powerful words. His grandchildren affectionately called him “pawpaw” and he was their personal chauffeur, by the direction of his loving wife. Deacon Moss song in the church choir and many gospel quartets. He is the last quartet member of the Sounds of Glory to receive their reward and is now leading songs in the heavenly choir. Deacon Moss loved the Lord and accepted Him in his life at an early age. Deacon Moss would pray heaven down anytime that he was called upon to pray and took his responsibility of head deacon seriously. He was faithful to serving during his season at Greater Faith Missionary Baptist Church. He and his wife took life by the horns and relocated back to their roots in Memphis and remained there for about three years. They decided to move back to Kansas City where they placed their membership with the Apostolic Church of Jesus Christ, where they continue to serve to the best of their ability.
Deacon Moss departed this life on Thursday, May 16, 2024 at the VA Hospital in Kansas City, Missouri, were they took great care of him. He was preceded in death by his loving wife of 56 years, Dorothy Jean Moss, parents Adolphus and Lula Moss, two sisters Lula Mae Collins and Shirley Moss, one brother Jonathan Moss and a host of other family members.
Deacon Moss leaves to cherish his memory, children: Ronald (Annette) Moss, Norris (Kimberly) Moss, Monica (Michael) Sanders, Veronica (Kia) Fallah and Anthony (Rhonda) Moss. Three sisters: Darthy Moss and Patricia Moss of Memphis, Tennessee, Katie Nelson of Eudora, Mississippi, three brothers: Willie Earl (Catherine) Moss of Canton, Michigan, J.B. (Helen) Moss of Hernando, Mississippi, and Lonnie (Maragret) Moss of Memphis, Tennessee, 14 grandchildren, nine great-grandchildren, a host of nieces, nephews, in-laws, church family, friends and family friend, sister Kanzola Shorts.
