Adrienne Lynn Johnson, age 50, passed away on December 18, 2020, in Kansas City, Missouri. Preceded in death by grandparents Sterling Roath, Sr., Ethel Mae Roath, and Cletus Baskett.
She was born on May 22, 1970, in Columbus, Georgia, to Colonel Kenneth Gerald Baskett and Carolyn Roath Baskett. Being a military child, Adrienne grew up in several locations, Columbus, GA; Huntsville, AL; Minneapolis, MN; and with the majority of her life in Kansas City, MO.
Adrienne graduated from Shawnee Mission West High School in Overland Park, KS, in 1988. She received her BS in Communication from UMKC in 1995 and MS in Counseling from St. Paul School of Theology in 2008. Adrienne was devoted to continued improvement, development, and education for herself and others.
She worked for Sprint Corporation for 12 years, and afterwards opened Sacred Steps Dance Studio. Adrienne was reported as one of the individuals with great expertise in spiritual dance, both teaching and performing.
Adrienne graduated from the Massage Training Institute and became a massage therapist. She owned and operated Grand Hands Massage Studio.
Adrienne believed she had a gift for healing and reaching out to others and utilized these gifts while serving as a tutor, homeless outreach volunteer, mentor, and prayer leader. She felt the call of God in her life at an early age. She spent most of her formative years at St. Stephens Baptist Church (Kansas City, MO) under guidance of her grandparents Sterling and Ethel Mae Roath. She was a faithful member of United Believers Church (Pastor Darren Edwards), then later attended and became a member of Trinity Template under leadership of Dr. Benjamin Stephens, III.
Adrienne’s gift of healing developed over the years. She was a trained Prayer Intercessor at Research Medical Center and a Bridge Advocate for domestic violence victims at Rose Brooks Women Center in Kansas City.
Through her life Adrienne has received many awards and recognition for her outstanding work in many areas.
Adrienne is most proud of her accomplishment with having her grand opening of Three Dimensions. This was her dream and God given gift to open this non-profit dance school to offer dance to students in the Grandview and Hickman Mills School districts. She truly felt dancing was a great “developer of the mind and heart”. The grand opening was held on August 8, 2020. Due to COVID-19, the school dates had to be postponed. Three Dimensions’ Board members have advised they will continue this project in Adrienne’s name and honor.
Adrienne is survived by her father: Col. Kenneth Baskett; mother: Carolyn Roath Baskett; daughters: Aja Fuel (Steven Fuel) and Lauren Johnson (Lawrence Johnson); son: Aiden Johnson (Lawrence Johnson); sisters: Nichole Hines (Roger Hines), Tiffany Baskett, and McKenna Baskett; great-grandmother: Rosella King; and a host of relatives, friends, and loved ones.
