Adrienne Tequista Nicole Powell was born in Atlanta, Georgia, and raised in Kansas City, Missouri. She was the beloved daughter of Barbara Mayes (d. 2018) and Orson Powell (d. 1996), who preceded her in death, and the devoted older sister of Thandi Powell. A proud graduate of Lincoln College Preparatory Academy in 1990, Adrienne pursued her passion for service and education by earning a Bachelor of Science in Social Work from Central Missouri State University in 1994. She furthered her academic achievements by obtaining a Master of Science in Social Work from Saint Louis University in 1998.
Adrienne devoted her life to making a meaningful difference in the lives of others. She began her career in social work in St. Louis, Missouri, where she excelled in various roles, including serving as a clinical supervisor for professional social workers throughout the state. Her leadership and dedication to her field earned her recognition in Who’s Who in Black Kansas City on two occasions, a testament to her exceptional contributions to the community.
A pioneer in evidence-based therapy, Adrienne’s expertise and innovative thinking led to the creation of two transformative therapy programs at a local community mental health organization—programs that continue to make a lasting impact to this day. She also pioneered the first Youth and Adolescent Outpatient Substance Abuse Treatment Program in her community, addressing the critical needs of underrepresented youth and providing them with a lifeline of support and care. Adrienne’s passion for public service extended beyond her professional endeavors. Deeply committed to uplifting her community, she founded Trinity Consulting Services, LLC—a reflection of her unwavering dedication to empowering others and driving meaningful change.
Over the course of her three-decade career, Adrienne not only provided compassionate care to countless individuals but also mentored and inspired numerous clinicians, equipping them with the skills to make a difference in their own communities. Her expertise, guidance, and dedication earned her the admiration and respect of her peers, colleagues, and community leaders, many of whom sought her counsel and wisdom. Adrienne also found deep fulfillment in her role as a member of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc., Kansas City (MO) Alumnae Chapter. Within this sisterhood, she cultivated lasting bonds and shared a collective mission of service that aligned perfectly with her life’s purpose.
Adrienne’s life was defined by love, connection, and unyielding dedication to those she held dear. She was a devoted mother to Stanley (Angel), Brandon, and Christian (Kaitlyn), and a proud grandmother to four grandchildren (Wreezin, Wroarie, Aaivenn, and A’Wrayah), with a fifth on the way (Trustan). She was surrounded by an extraordinary circle of friends and family who filled her life with love, joy, and unwavering support. Adrienne’s legacy endures through her children, grandchildren, friends, and family, as well as the countless lives she touched with her kindness, compassion, and relentless commitment to helping others. She will forever be remembered for her strength, radiant smile, and warmth that left a lasting mark on all who knew her. Adrienne’s spirit of service and love will live on in the hearts of those she inspired, leaving a legacy that will never fade.
