Listen to Obituary

Albert (Berty) Ivan Berys DuCasse, affectionately known as ‘Uncle Berty’, or ‘Brother D’, went home to be with his Lord and Savior at the age of 87 on Wednesday, May 4, 2022, in Kansas City, Missouri. His battle with serious medical issues in recent months demonstrated his courage, determination and strength. Despite the pain he suffered, he remained steadfast in his faith in God. Albert was born to Leonie Clarke and Herman DuCasse on December 25, 1934, in Kingston, Jamaica. At the age of 25, Albert immigrated to London England, where he met and married the love of his life, Mertibel (Merty) DuCasse. They lived in London for 25 years and moved to Kansas City, Missouri in 1986, where they resided for the past 36 years. Together they raised four children: George Wynter, Sandra DuCasse-Townsend, Leroy DuCasse and Maria DuCasse- Vaughan. Merty and Albert were honored to be married for 61 years with their anniversary on May 6, 2022. Albert was a Painter and Decorator by trade and he was passionate and meticulous in his craft. During his spare time, he enjoyed reading the Bible, witnessing and preaching to others. His zest for life was evident to everyone whom he encountered. Albert had a heart for those less fortunate and a continuous desire to help others in any way possible. He loved to make jokes, enjoy a good meal with friends and family and share his knowledge of the Word of God. He is survived by his wife, four children, nine grandchildren: Simone Ojei, Sana and Sofian Zoberi, Raphael Campbell, Sanchez Gower, Daniella Vaughan, Yves Bramwell, Cherrelle and Joel Wynter; six great-grandchildren: Zayne and Laith Elgamal, Elizabeth and Benjamin Banks, Amara and Noah Ojei; his mother Leonie Clarke (who will turn 105 June 16, 2022); two brothers: Clifford and Dave Clarke; four sisters: Daphnie Lindo, Juliet Gumby, Marlene Waul and Jennifer Blaufox; son-in-law John Townsend; grandson-in-law Daniel Bramwell; daughter- in-law, Jean Wynter, and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and dear friends. He is preceded in death by his father, Herman DuCasse; brother, Horace DuCasse; sisters: Lollette DuCasse, Barbara DuCasse, Maria Murray; brother-in-law, Harry B. Gumby; and niece- in-law, Ife Peterson.
