Al graduated from Central High School “Class of 71”. He attended college at Kentucky State University and returned to Kansas City, MO after the untimely death of Charles Massey Jr. in 1977.
In his youth, Al worked at the neighborhood Milgram’s grocery store. Al retired from Williams Pipeline / Magellan Pipeline LLC after 35 years of service. Al owned “A Matter of Taste”, a business that was formulated while sitting in the waiting area of a car dealership.
As a youth, Al attended West Paseo Church. Until the Covid pandemic prevented attendance, Al regularly attended At. James United Methodist Church.
Al married Princess Johnson and together they had four children, Sherise, Angel, Ed and Alfred “AJ”.
Al later married Myra “Patsy” Brock, no children were born to this marriage
Al’s greatest loves were God, family, and friends.
His other passions included cooking, home improvements, music, helping others and sports. Al loved hosting cookouts, Halloween events and Neighborhood Block Parties. The proudest life’s moments for Al were witnessing Sherise and AJ’s college graduation ceremonies In 2009, Al was a kidney transplant recipient, but he did not allow that to slow him down nor deter him. He continued to work full time and travel conducting his duties as a financial secretary officer with the US Steel Workers Union. Al was the unofficial mentor to others who had chronic kidney disease and coached them through dialysis and the transplant process. Joking around was Al’s way of leaving a lasting impression on everyone he met.
