Allen Adam Nurse: a devoted husband, father, brother, uncle, and friend passed away on Tuesday, October 4, 2022. Allen was born to Marva Jean Nurse-Anderson on March 12, 1950, in Chicago, Illinois. He was the oldest of 15 siblings. Allen was raised in a Christian home with very loving and supportive parents and family. He loved sports, swimming, fishing, dancing, and spending time with family and friends. He also loved to eat delicious foods!

Allen accepted Jesus Christ at an early age and enjoyed going to church. After graduating from Englewood High School, Allen enlisted in the United States Navy. He served on many USS Navy ships, including the USS Dwight D. Eisenhower (CVN 69) (IKE), USS Schenectady (LST-1185), USS Comte de Grasse (DD-974), and the USS Monticello (L52SD-35).

He earned numerous prestigious military awards, including the National Defense Service Medal, three Good Conduct Metals, Vietnam Campaign Metal, Vietnam Service Medal, three Sea Service Deployment Ribbons, Navy Unit Commendation Ribbon, Meritorious Unit Commendation Ribbon, and the Navy Expeditionary Medal. While on TDY Duty, Allen was stationed in Kansas City, Missouri. He served in the Navy for 23 years and retired with an Honorable Discharge. Allen, we thank you for your service!

After retiring from the Navy, Allen returned home to Kansas City, Missouri and a few years later he married Linda McLemore-Nurse. He was a security officer for Children’s Mercy Hospital and later for the Kansas City Public Schools. He was always trustworthy and well-respected. He loved the Kansas City Chiefs, Kansas City Royals, his “favorite buddy” dog Clifford, and watching movies (action, mystery, and Science-Fiction).

Allen was a faithful and dependable deacon and Sunday school teacher at Greater Solid Rock Missionary Baptist Church. Deacon Nurse loved his entire church family! He would help anyone in any way he could. He was always friendly and kind to everybody. He represented the good that we all need every day in our lives. Allen could find the silver lining to push forward in any situation.

Allen was preceded in death by his mother, father and four siblings: Michelle Anderson, Eddie Anderson, Raymond Anderson, and Larry Nurse.

To cherish his memories, Allen leaves: Linda McLemore-Nurse (his wife); Brittany Rochelle McLemore of Seattle, WA and Gerald McLemore II of Frisco, TX (twins, his God-sent daughter and son); Clifford (his beloved dog); seven sisters: Sherry Butler of Indianapolis, IN; Maxine Nurse of Chicago, IL; Anita Anderson of Milwaukee, WI; Toni Anderson of Chicago, IL; Vanessa McDaniel of Indianapolis, IN; Charlene Anderson of Waukegan, IL; and Paulette Hammell (Rick Hammell) of Skokie, IL; three brothers: Harold Nurse of Chicago, IL (his twin brother); Marvin Nurse of Milwaukee, WI; and Terry Anderson (Crystal Anderson) of Indianapolis, IN; and an abundance of nieces, nephews, cousins, friends, and loved ones.
