Listen to Obituary

Allie Eugene Johnson was born on October 20, 1940 in Des Moines, Iowa. He was raised and educated in Kansas City, Missouri. He was preceded in death by his adoptive parents: Allie Eugene Johnson and Bernice (Johnson) Burns; his biological mother: Charlesetta Watkins; his sister Mildred Jones; his brothers; Tommy Watkins, Michael Watkins.

Allie accepted Christ as his Lord and Savior, and was baptized at the early age of 6. He became a member of and attended Highland Baptist Church, later renamed Metropolitan Missionary Baptist Church. Allie married Joyce Marie Daniels on September 5, 1972. They were blessed with 49 years of marriage. He was known as a hard worker, and had many jobs beginning in his early teen years until his retirement. After he became a family man, his occupations were working for the Continental Baking Company at various bakeries for 20+ years, and as a Bus Operator for the Kansas City Area Transportation Authority (KCA TA) for 23 years.

After his retirement he continued working on projects around the house as a handy man. He was not afraid to tackle big projects inside and outside the house. On occasion he did home improvement projects for our neighbors.

Allie was a devoted husband and father who was always there for his family. The hobbies he found most enjoyable were photography, putting together elaborate model train and race car sets for our children, and supporting the children's school, sports, and dance activities. When he had time to watch television, he would often watch western movies, football, and baseball games; especially the Kansas City Royals. Gardening was one of his favorite hobbies, and he would always share his enormous crops with family and friends. Among Allie's favorite holidays were Independence Day with his love for fireworks, and Halloween because he would give away huge personalized treat bags to friends, family, and visitors.

Allie departed his earthly life on August 8, 2022. Allie leaves to cherish his memory: his devoted wife Joyce; his children: Michael A. Johnson, Gregory T. Johnson, Keiara M. Johnson all of Kansas City, Missouri; his sisters: Alice Francis Lincoln (Charlie) of Bettendorf, Iowa; Stephanie Watkins of Des Moines, Iowa; brother: Charles Watkins (Susan) of Spencer, Iowa; Mother-in-law, Geraldine Daniels of Des Moines, Iowa; and brothers-in-law, sisters-in-law, nephews, nieces, cousins, and friends.
