Alma Rena Wynne, 84, passed away on February 25, 2026, in the comfort of her home surrounded by those who loved her.
Alma Rena or Rena, as she was affectionally called by her family and friends, was born May 11, 1941, to Johnie L. and Alma Harrell in Fort Towson, Oklahoma. The family eventually moved to Bonner Springs, KS where she received her education beginning with the segregated Lincoln Grade School and graduating from Bonner Springs High School in 1959. Following graduation, Rena began working for Western Electric (now AT&T) doing clerical work. She was employed there for many, many years. When she decided to retire, she occupied her time being a crossing guard for the Bonner Springs School District until her health no longer permitted her to do so.
Everyone who knew Rena knew that singing was in her blood. She loved to sing! This passion came from both of her parents. She began singing at an early age along with her lifelong friends, the Dangerfields. This passion never left her. Up until God called her home...she sang! Now that she is in her new home, she is singing in God’s heavenly choir! Praise God!
Rena professed a love for Christ at an early age. She was a faithful member of the New Light Missionary Baptist Church serving in all areas of the church. She loved doing missionary work, participating in Sunday School, being a deaconess, and of course, being a treasured member of the Inspirational Choir.
Alma Rena met the love of her life, Oliver Wynne, 68 years ago, and they were married on October 10, 1959, at New Light. To this union, Valerie and Tyrie were born. The family has been bonded together for 65 years! What a blessing! Even though Alma Rena has gained her heavenly wings, we believe we will see her again in her new body, free from the pains of this world.
Alma Rena Wynne was preceded in death by her husband of 65 years, Oliver Wynne Jr., her loving parents Johnie Lee Harrell, Alma Thompson Harrell, and one sister, Donna Jewel Guess.
She is survived by her children, Valerie Lane (Cliff), Tyrence Wynne (Dynel); grandchildren, Anthony (Jenni), Corwan, Talisha, Taryn, Darrin, Eric (Jennii); great grandchildren, Emma, Olivia, Miniyah, Mariah, Nicholas, Jaylen, Madisyn; great great grandchildren, Marlaya and Trevion; sisters, Mary May (Clevon) and Jocelyn Gaitan. She leaves her sisters and brothers-in-law, a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends! She loved you all!
