Listen to Obituary

Alonna Toni Maria Ersery was born February 21st, 2007 to her parents Anthony Damon Ersery and Janala Maria Ersery. From a young age Alonna always knew how to brighten a room with her presence and her infectious smile. She was so loving and kind to everyone and brought so much joy with her playfulness.

In her earlier years Alonna was a member of True Love Missionary Baptist Church, pastored by her paternal great grandfather Rev. Emmanuel Rambo. At just 6  years old she was diagnosed with a very rare Mitochondrial disease which came with many complications, but God was with her. Alonna and her family continued to push forward as her parents searched for the best medical care that could be provided for her. When she would fall or face any obstacle Alonna would tell her mom, “I’m okay Mommy”.

She was very resilient. Alonna loved singing and she loved music. You could catch her singing in the car with her family and even in the True Love Choir where she often sang praises to God in the arms of one of the choir members along-side her mother. She was a girly girl and often played in make-up, wore jewelry  and  enjoyed getting her nails and  hair done. She cared for her pets Mario (deceased), Mister and Bear. Most of all, Alonna loved being a sister. She was babied by her older siblings Jahne, Sckiya, and Gaheim and channeled her inner bossiness to being an older sister to Jayla (even though sometimes she would let Jayla be the big sister) - she was protective over them all. Alonna was a student of Center School district and attended Boone Elementary where her dad and little sister accompanied her to the father-daughter dance.

After suffering a major complication that resulted in Alonna being on a ventilator in 2015, Alonna became homeschooled through Center School district and later through Ray-Pec School District where she warmed the hearts of many as her personality continued to shine through. Teachers and therapists would often have to earn smiles from Alonna as she would pretend to be asleep when she didn’t want to participate but she would later open her eyes and smile or give a smirk to show she was just joking.

She enjoyed meeting new people and had a spirit that would light up the room and a smile that could somehow melt away all of the world’s problems. She’d laugh at her mom when something silly would happen and smile when her dad would give her a warm embrace. Her Grandpa “PawPaw” would greet her with his own special songs and her niece, Maleya would always greet her with a kiss. Alonna attended plays, drive-thru zoos, went to the movies and enjoyed a good scalp massage. She watched The Voice or America’s got Talent faithfully every week and watched  KU JayHawks sports with her Dad.

On May 10, 2024 Alonna was called to be with her grandmothers in heaven as she passed away at KU Medical Center where she received most of her medical care. She was 17 years old. Alonna was a true princess who touched the lives and hearts of so many people and made the world so much brighter.

Alonna was preceded in death by both her Maternal Grandmother, Fayetta Maria Hunter, and Paternal Grandmother, Sharon Rambo-Ersery.

She leaves to cherish her memory her mother, Janala Hunter-Ersery; father, Anthony Damon Ersery; Sisters Jahne Hunter, Sckiya Banister, and Jayla Ersery; brother, Gaheim Banister; Niece, Maleya Veasley; Grandfathers, Stanley Hunter Sr. and Anthony Ray Ersery;  Great Grandmothers, Eartha Lee Ersery and Mattie Mae Washington;  Great Grandfathers Emanuel Rambo Jr. and Arthur Washington; Aunts,  Quiana Rambo-Williams (Ralph), Orlaunda Thrash (Arthur) of Jacksonville, FL, Alida Smith (Kevin)(San Bernardino, Ca) and Jacinda Kelly (Sean) of San Diego, Ca.; Uncles, Terrell Mosby, Stanley Hunter Jr. of Long Beach, Ca.; Godparents Darryl and Keichanda Burnett and a God-Aunt and Nurse, Jaleya Johnson.
