Listen to Obituary

On February 14, 1963, Alphonso (Duke) Carroll was born in KCK as the eighth child of Rose M. Collins & Doris Carroll. He had ten siblings, and the following individuals preceded him in death: LeRoy Carroll, Lee Edward Carroll, Doris Carroll Jr, Delores Washington, and Jesse Collins. He leaves to cherish his beautiful memories to his wife Diahna Carroll, Mother Rose Collins, siblings; Betty Parker, Henritta Hardridge, Kenneth Hardrige, Forrest Carroll, Kelvin Collins, and Waletha Robinson.

Alphonso entered the workforce at a young age, earning his GED and Butcher Licenses shortly thereafter. He commenced his career with David Balls (Price Choppers) for 30+ years.

Alphonso was introduced to Diahna Brooks through a mutual friend. After a year of courting, Duke was convinced that Diahna was the one God had placed in his life to be his wife. They married August 2, 1990 and enjoyed 33+ blissful years of marriage. Alphonso lovingly welcomed Diahna's three daughters (LaVera Evans, TyJanua Jackson, and LaCresha Brooks) into his life as his own children.

After 33 years, a loving husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather; raising 3 beautiful daughters, Alphonso has been blessed with a large and loving family.

He leaves his memories to his 10 grandchildren and (9 great-grandchildren), Lee Quincy Hill III, Adrene' Elise (Arrys Davis), Brene' Grant, Andesha Evans (Akeem Anderson Jr.), Ike McCloud, Pondre’ McCloud (Paige McCloud, Pondre’ McCloud II., Psyrae McCloud, Pryce McCloud, Promise McCloud, Poetri McCloud), Antazja Quinn (A'Lonte Harkin), Mar’Nyn Sanders, Marlin Sanders, and Mar'Zyah Sanders. Alphonso was an awesome and remarkable man who touched the lives of many everywhere, in his characteristics of charity, love, and kindness.

Alphonso had a special place in his heart for his family and valued the time he spent with them. He was a devoted husband, standing by his wife through the highs and lows of life. Those close to him knew that his love for his wife was unparalleled, as he cherished her with all his being. In Hebrew, the name Jesse means “God exist”. He chose this name when he repented as an Israelite from the mighty tribe of Judah. He was a devoted Officer of the Israelites United in Christ.

The Book of Proverbs emphasizes the value of a good name over great riches. Officer Jesse's life serves as a compelling illustration of the importance of one's name and legacy. As a formidable warrior, his influence touched many lives on various levels. Officer Jesse exemplified the qualities of a Man of Valor, a warrior of the Highest. His life underscored the significance of shedding the old self and being born again after the manner of our Black Messiah Jesus the Christ.

Officer Jesse, recognizing repentance as the steps in his journey as an Israelite, understood that it marked the beginning of a new chapter in his life. As Solomon prophesied, "In much wisdom is much grief," highlighting the depth of understanding that often comes with profound wisdom: and he that increaseth in knowledge increaseth sorrow. Officer Jesse comprehended the oppression faced by his people, the Israelites, and devoted the rest of his life to propagating the Gospel of Christ. Each Sabbath, we engaged in a spiritual battle alongside our brothers, bravely fighting to alter the perspectives of our people. With the tenacity of a lion's whelp, Officer Jesse inspired and rallied the men to action.

We will eternally recall our brother yelling, "What Time is it" and our unified response, "War Time." On January 2nd, Officer Jesse did not meet his end; instead, our brother awakened in paradise, walking in his uprightness. Guiding us into battle every Sabbath with his powerful chant, he now resides in heavenly places alongside the Prophets who were slain for the word of God. His voice echoes loudly with forefathers the prophets.

“How long, O Lord, holy and true, dost thou not judge and avenge our blood on them that dwell on the earth?” In our endurance, we know the time will be soon, when we will see our brother again.. In his wake, he leaves behind immediate family, uncles, auntie, many nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives, co-workers and friends who love him dearly.
