Listen to Obituary

Alvene Lydale Porter, age 63, of Kansas City, Kansas, departed this life on Monday, September 8, 2025, with the love of his life, Cristina, by his side.

Alvene was born on June 24, 1962, in Kansas City, Kansas, to the late Vertee Porter and Earsa Lee (Johnson) Porter. He spent his early childhood in Kansas City, Kansas, before relocating with his family to Kansas City, Missouri, where he completed his education.

Alvene was truly one of a kind — a man who left a lasting impression on every person he met. He carried a bright, contagious energy with him and could light up any room simply by walking into it. He was known not only for his unforgettable personality but also for his impeccable style. Whether it was a family gathering or just another day, Alvene always stepped out dressed to impress — sharp suits, polished shoes, and jewelry that spoke volumes about his vibrant taste. He cherished his fashion and knew he was “that guy” — and no one could tell him otherwise. He knew he was handsome, and he wore that confidence like a crown.

Alvene had a deep love for music and never passed up a chance to sing karaoke. He had a special way of bringing people together, whether through laughter, storytelling, or simply being present. He was a loving partner, father, grandfather, brother, son, and friend — and above all, an amazing man. His warmth, humor, unforgettable smile, and signature sayings, especially “You ain’t talk’n bout nothing!”, will echo in the hearts of those who loved him for years to come.

Alvene was preceded in death by his father, Vertee Porter; one brother, Kenny Porter; and two sisters, Doris Porter and Talisha Johnson.

Left to cherish Alvene's memory: his beloved partner of 35 years, Cristina Gumangan; his beautiful children: Lamonte Davis, Alvene Porter Jr., Detra Porter, Eric Porter, Monica Porter, Dominique Porter, Krystal Porter, Sparkle Mitchell, NaShe’a Porter, and Alexander Porter; many grandchildren and great-grandchildren who adored him; his loving mother, Earsa Porter; his brothers: James Johnson, Vertee Porter Jr., and Kevin Porter; his sisters: Priscilla Irvin and Sherree Rivers; along with a host of nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles, cousins, and dear friends.

Alvene’s vibrant spirit, memorable laugh, and loving heart will truly be missed but never forgotten. His legacy lives on through the countless lives he touched and the love he gave so freely.
