Angela Seward-Hancock, 60, was born on May 19, 1965, in Milwaukee, Wisconsin, to the union of Joe Calvin and Lillie Virginia (Rucker) Seward, both of whom preceded her in peace.
Angela received her education in the public schools of Kansas City, Missouri, and was a proud member of the Hickman Mills High School Class of 1983.
On February 13, 1992, Angela united in marriage with Anthony Hancock, and from their union two children were born. Though their marriage later ended, Angela and Anthony remained best friends throughout her life.
Angela, more commonly known as "Angie", was passionate about helping others. That passion led her to the Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD), where she began as a secretary and, through dedication and hard work, rose to the position of Senior Financial Analyst. In that role, she gained lifelong friends and worked tirelessly to ensure that communities nationwide had access to affordable housing.
Family was the cornerstone of Angie’s life. She took pride in being a devoted mother, grandmother, sister, and aunt. Her children and granddaughter were her world, and she would move heaven and earth to support them, guide them, and offer her opinion—whether they asked for it or not.
Angie was an avid reader with a collection of hundreds of books she loved to get lost in during her quiet moments. When she wasn’t reading, she could often be found listening to music from all genres and decades, especially her favorites—Con Funk Shun, Keith Sweat, R. Kelly, and Janet Jackson.
She was an “introverted extrovert,” who valued her alone time but never turned down the chance to be with her friends and family. Even when she didn’t stay long, she always made an effort to show her face at every gathering.
Angie had a special love for her cars. She affectionately gave them nicknames and took pride in keeping them spotless. To her, washing her car was her form of relaxation and reflection.
Faith was a guiding force in Angie’s life. She believed deeply in the power of prayer and began each morning asking God to watch over her loved ones.
Angie departed this life on Wednesday, November 5, 2025, marking the end of an incredible era and the passing of a true legend.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Anthony Hancock; her brothers: Vincent Seward, Terry Seward, and Andre Seward; her sister-in-law, Marnita Seward; her niece, Angel Seward; her nephews, Robert Davis and Rashad Leggs.
Angie leaves to cherish her memory: her daughter, Amber Hancock (Joshua Washington); her son, Anthony Hancock; her beloved granddaughter, affectionately known as, “Ponkie-Wonkie Woo,” Ava Warren, who was the light of her life; her sister: Adriana Seward-Leggs (Ellery Leggs); her brothers: Jackie Seward (Adriane Seward) and Kyle Seward (Rochelle Boyd); and a host of aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives, and friends who will forever hold her in their hearts.
Her family gave her strength, laughter, and joy. Angie was deeply proud of the life she built for her children and granddaughter and the legacy she leaves behind for all who loved her.
Family and friends are invited to attend the Graveside Service that will be held Wednesday, November 12, 2025, at Brooking Cemetery in Raytown, Missouri, at 11:00 a.m.
