On a very hot day at the end of the month, August 31, 1932, in Keytesville, Mo., a beautiful baby girl was born to Sarah K. Johnson and Jesse Paige. They named her Anna Elizabeth. She was the apple of their eye. "Libby" as she was affectionately called, took flight to her Heavenly Father on July 20, 2017.
She was preceded in death by both of her husbands, parents, grandparents, Step-father: Thomas Washington, Brothers; Charles Johnson, Thomas E Washington and William C. Washington, Sister: Shirley K. Washington Simmons ,and Brother-in-law, Robert Horrid.
At an early age, she was baptized at First Baptist Church in Dalton, Mo. and was educated at Dalton Elementary and High School. She met her first love John Wesley Adams when he returned from serving in the United States Army. In 1949, they were joined in Holy Matrimony and three children were born; John Wesley, Jr., Doris Ann and Linda Marie.
The family moved to Columbia, Mo. In 1958 and she began employment as a pants presser for Sudden Service Laundry and then to Dorn Cloney Cleaners. She was an excellent pants presser! When Dorn Cloney closed, Anna began cooking for Kappa Alpha Theta Sorority, which she enjoyed. Upon moving to Kansas City,Mo. In 1967, she worked at Wolf Brothers Laundry followed by Arrow Cleaners.
Anna and Richard E. Duncan were joined in Holy Matrimony on February 20, 1987. They began enjoying the married life and she later retired. After his death, in 1994, she occupied her time with her many hobbies. She began her mornings with the morning newspaper, from front to back. She often sewed, worked in her garden, went shopping at her favorite store; Cargo Largo, played her "Pick 3' numbers and went to the Casino. She found a way to stay busy. She took great pleasure in preparing her Sunday dinners and always had a feast on holidays. She loved cooking.
Anna was a faithful member of Willis Chapel African Methodist Episcopal Church and a dedicated worker. She was happy being a child of God and loved serving Him. She read her Bible and Daily Bread Devotional book daily. Libby cherished her kitchen duties and took great pride in the "Best Choice Label" project. She was a member of Alma Steemer Women's Missionary Society and the Seniors Ministry. When illness prevented her from worshiping at church, she would call some of the members to see what she missed. She enjoyed church and loved her church family. She was always willing to do whatever was asked of her. Anna leaves to cherish her loving memories, son, John Wesley Adams Jr., daughters, Doris Ann Adams Camp, of Kansas City, MO. and Linda Marie Jackson – Adams Hobbs, Milwaukee, Wisconsin. Sisters: Dorothy Washington Horrid, Margaret Sue Washington, Joyce Washington and Carolyn Washington Paige (John); all of Milwaukee, Wisconsin, Great grandchildren, nieces, nephews, cousins, church family and friends.
