Arnette Elmore

Arnette Elmore was born August 20, 1938 in Clarksdale, Mississippi to the union of Miller Lambert and Clara Ann Evans.  She was preceded in death by both parents, her sisters, Annie Christine Lambert Bell, Alvin Dean Ingram Rodgers, her identical twin, Barnette Johnson, and her oldest child, Thomas Andrew Winston, III.

Arnette united with Thomas Andrew Winston Jr and to this union three children were born, Thomas Andrew (Andy), Tanya, and Sharon.

She came to Kansas City at the age of 18, got a job at KU Medical Center, and worked there for 40 years. She was a very hard working, loyal person.  Arnette loved God and was an angel sent from Heaven. She helped so many get on their feet in order to have a fighting chance in life. She encouraged them to believe and lean on the Lord.  She opened her home and fed those that didn’t have. Arnette would give her last and did just that many times over. She believed more in others than they did in themselves. She was a member of the Order of Eastern Star, Faith Chapter 110 for several years.  She possessed many awards and certificates for being such a true philanthropist, always loving and giving and never expecting anything back in return.

Arnette was also known as Nanna and she loved her children, nieces, nephews, grandchildren, and great grandchildren to the utmost.  She knew what was going on with each of them. If one strayed, Nanna was there to guide them and set them back on the right course; sometimes more forceful than others. Nanna held a lot of family secrets and if she couldn’t resolve the issue, she used reinforcement – other family members – to get the job done.  She would “shoot from the hip”, tell the truth, whether we wanted to hear it or not. There was no sugar coating with Nanna. You knew exactly where you stood with her.

Arnette lost her twin sister thirteen days before she passed away.  They were best friends and talked on the phone 3-5 times daily. She missed her twin and mourned her death like no other.  She lived the remaining days of her life with a broken heart. Reinforcement arrived and God took his angel, Arnette.

She leaves to cherish her memories, filled with a lot of love and laughter:

Her children, Tanya D. Winston Lewis and Sharon R. Brown (Steven), grandchildren, Sean Winston Sr., Deontre Winston Sr., (Terra), Brandon Winston Sr., LaKeitra Brown Leal (Gerardo), Steven Brown, Jr., Cierra Brown, Diamond Tabron (Christina), and eight great grandchildren.
