Arthur Myles Long was born January 5, 1945, in Clarksdale, Mississippi, to Rev. Myles and Rosa Anderson Long. He accepted Christ at an early age through the influence of his father, Rev. Myles Long. He worked diligently in various ministries in his father’s church until he relocated to Kansas City, Missouri, in 1970 and later joined Mount Pleasant Baptist Church under Rev. L. Henderson Bell, a long-time friend of the family.
Arthur attended Coahoma Agriculture High School and graduated from Coahoma Junior College in Clarksdale, Mississippi, with an Associate of Arts degree in Industrial Arts. He pursued further study at Mississippi Valley State College in Itta Bena, Mississippi, and Central Missouri State University, focusing on drafting. The Army drafted him in 1966, causing a three-year break in his education which resumed once released from service. His tour of duty proved to be an exciting adventure and enhanced his career, having visited many countries.
When Arthur returned from the service, he was motivated to acquire full ownership of a service station he operated while attending college. After a few years, he dissolved the business, sought employment with Hallmark Cards in 1970, and retired after over 30 years of service. Although he enjoyed a rewarding career with Hallmark, his life was defined by enjoying stimulating conversations, instructing others on how to perform tasks, and assisting his family and friends in any capacity he could.
Arthur and Mary Jordan were united in marriage in 1971, and they became the proud parents of Anthony Breswar and Derrick Duval. After the death of Mary’s sister Barbara in 1983, they were blessed to raise her daughter Kimberly Ann Jordan who they loved and cherished.
On April 23, 2021, God called Arthur home to be with his father and mother, Myles and Rosa, and brothers Clarence Marshall, James, and Floyd, who preceded him in death.
Arthur leaves to cherish his memories, his children: Anthony (Debbie), Derrick (Jamayla), Kimberly, and Jarrett; grandchildren: Dalina Denise Walker, Daniel Brandon Jordan, Christopher Anthony, Barbara Jean Jordan, Camille Alice, Darius Duval, and Davis Duval; siblings: Otis Stith (Nancy), John (Rhonda), Richard (Carol), Mable Bigham (Charles), Dorothy Wills (Fred), Ramona Dickens (Leonard), Carl (Lareace), Freddie (Darlene), Juanita Ross, and Sammie (Regina); and two uncles: Henry Anderson and Dr. Sammie Anderson (Joyce); and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
