Life Reflections Arthur Nathaniel Washington May 4, 1939 – August 22, 2026 Arthur Nathaniel Washington was born on May 4, 1939, to Thomas Washington Sr. and Ida F. Clemons Washington. He departed this life peacefully on August 22, 2026, at his home surrounded by his loved ones. Arthur was preceded in death by his four brothers, Charles Raymond Maddox Sr., Thomas Washington Jr., James Edward Washington, and Joseph Lewis Washington; his three sisters, Lilly Gene Saxton, Francis Washington, and Faylease Elizabeth Williamson; his son, Charles E. Rambo; and his daughters, Sharon Ersery (Anthony) and Terrice Singleton (Andre).

Arthur was a hardworking man of many talents who believed in providing for his family and making good use of the gifts God gave him. He dedicated 30 years to the General Motors Leeds Assembly Plant, retiring in the late 1990s. His coworkers knew him affectionately as “Nate” or “Wash.” Arthur was also an entrepreneur who owned and operated a janitorial service and was a gifted carpenter. There was very little he couldn't build, repair, or fix. Arthur was a man of strong faith and a faithful member of True Love Missionary Baptist Church, where he served as Chairman of the Deacon Board. Spirit-filled and dedicated, he was an important part of the worship service. He loved serving the Lord, his church, and his family.

Arthur shared 58 years of marriage with the love of his life, Mattie Washington. Their life together was filled with love, laughter, family, and countless memories. They enjoyed one another, stood beside each other through every season, and continued choosing one another year after year. Mattie was more than his wife—she was his companion, partner, and best friend. Together, Arthur and Mattie joined their lives and families, creating a loving blended family of 14 children. As their family grew, Arthur became affectionately known as “Big Daddy.” To his family, Big Daddy was a husband, father, grandfather, provider, protector, teacher, and a man they could depend on. His love and influence continued through generations of grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and great-great-grandchildren.

Big Daddy leaves to cherish his memory his beloved wife, Mattie Washington; his daughters, Evelyn Richardson (Michael), Nathalene Washington, Teresa Doakes, Patricia Washington, Jeanetter Wallace, Joann Hughes (Timothy), Brenda Green (Tracey), Patricia Gadson (Maurice), and Lora Johnson (Jeffery); his sons, Willie Gene Rambo (Joyous) and Stevie Rambo; and a host of grandchildren, great-grandchildren, great-great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews, friends, church family, and extended family. Arthur lived 87 years filled with faith, family, hard work, and love. His hands built many things, but his greatest accomplishment was the life and legacy he built with the people he loved. The carpenter has laid down his tools. The Deacon has completed his service. The husband has loved his wife. The father has helped raise his family. And Big Daddy has left us a legacy of faith, family, and love. Rest well, Big Daddy. Your love will remain in our hearts and live on through generations
