Listen to Obituary

Barbara Dell Hinton, 72, transitioned from her earthly home to eternal life on November 26, 2023 at Research Medical Center. She was born June 9, 1951, in Laurel, Mississippi to Robert McMiller and Vina McMiller. Barbara Dell grew up in Kansas City, Missouri.

In 1967, she graduated from Manual High School. After graduation, she went on to earn her license as a Licensed Practical Nurse. Barbara Dell was a dedicated nurse at St. Mary’s, and Truman Medical Center. She retired after 22 years, proudly as a Nurse Manager at Kingswood Manor. As a young woman, her vibrant personality definitely lit up a room. She loved listening to music, playing cards and softball. Barbara Dell was a fearless fighter; she sacrificed for her children and loved all of her family dearly and could give you a pinch with a twist that you just knew would take your skin off; but it kept you in line. Everyone knew not to call when Young and the Restless was on and you better be quiet when she was watching her Chiefs or cheer them on – A wonderful woman indeed!! Preceding her in death were her parents, Robert & Vina McMiller; her brother, Clinton Cruise; her brother-in-law, Charles Howard, Sr.; her son, Tony Hinton; and a bonus child, L.C. Davison. Barbara Dell leaves to cherish her love and memories her daughter, Coretta Paige of Kansas City, MO; her son, Clinton McMiller, Sr. (Valerie) of St. Louis, MO; her son, Gene Hinton of Kansas City, MO; her brother, Clifton Cruise of Harrisonville, MO; her brother, Charles Cruise, Sr. (Florence) of Kansas City, MO; and her sisters, Bertha Howard and Janice McMiller, both of Kansas City, MO.

She also leaves to cherish her memories her grandchildren: Tierra Coleman (Brandon Sr.), Clinton McMiller, Jr., David Cruise, and Terry’ion Hinton-Gates, all of Kansas City, MO; Arionna, Tony, and Torre McMiller, all of St. Louis, MO; her three great-grandchildren, Nevaeh Coleman, Brandon Coleman, Jr., and Daisy Dunn, all of Kansas City, MO; and a host of other relatives and friends.
