Barbara J Merrick

Barbara J. Merrick, 74, passed away on Saturday, August 5, 2017 at St. Joseph Medical Center in Kansas City, Missouri. She was born on May 24, 1943 in New Orleans, Louisiana to Mr. Joseph Tanner Sr. and Mrs. Ethel N. Tanner. She spent most of her life in Kansas City, Missouri where she attended and graduated from Lincoln High School (Lincoln Academy). After high school, Barbara met and married Mr. Stoney L. Merrick, with whom she remained married for over 50 years. After working with Truman Medical Center and the US Postal Service, she found her passion in working with children and helping others through her longstanding service with the Kansas City Public Library, from which she retired in 2004.

Barbara will be truly missed by her husband, Mr. Stoney Merrick; her daughters, Cheryl Western and Carol Merrick; her sons, Cordell Merrick and Demetrius Merrick; her mother, Mrs. Ethel Tanner; her sister, Cynthia Moody; her brothers, Arthur Tanner, Henry Tanner, and Joseph Tanner Jr., all of Kansas City, Mo. She will also be deeply missed by her 11 grandchildren, 20 great-grandchildren, and a host of relatives and friends.
