Barbara Jean (Abrought) Scott, born April 13, 1933, in Kansas City, Mo., First born child of Howard and Lucille (Barnes) Abrought. Passed away April 14,2026, peacefully at the age of ninety-three, surrounded by her loving children and family, at her home in Kansas City, MO.
Barbara Jean attended elementary School and Lincoln High School in the Kansas City, Missouri Public School District. After High School Barbara Jean attended K.C Junior College and St. Teresa College.
Accepting Christ at an early age and was Baptize and joined Morning Star Baptist Church.
Being the eldest child with nine brothers and sisters, her youthful years and young adult years were filled with family Love. She Loved helping her mother look after the younger ones and they loved and respected her as their oldest sister.
In 1950 Barbara Jean married John W. Goss this marriage ended and later she met and Married her Beloved husband James K. Scott in 1955, James passed in 1997.
Barbara Jean worked as a Clerk for IRS and as an Inspector for Lake City Ammunition Plant. After her car accident she became disable and unable to work. With all her wisdom and knowledge, she began doing income tax for family and friends. Barbara Jean acquired her preparation of income tax knowledge from her mother.
As a young woman with children of her own. She joined Second Baptist Church under the leadership of Rev. E.E. Chappelle. Where she taught Sunday School and participated in Church activities. Her final church home was Memorial Missionary Baptist Church, under the Pastorate of the late Rev. T.B. Baker, where she served on the Mission Board and work in the Kitchen. Memorial later became Memorial Church International under the Spiritual Leadership of Apostal Larry B. and Pastor Olivia CQ Aiken, she Loved and cherished their loyalty to the Church and the Church Members.
Barbara Jean lived life to it’s fullest, living a joyful life. She enjoyed her game shows, Price is Right, Let’s Make a Deal and Wheel of Fortune. Playing Cards with her siblings and friends, traveling and Family gatherings. Twice her Devoted Daughter took her to the Price is Right Show for her Birthday’s, she did not get selected, yet the experience was a lifetime remembrance for her.
Her Love for her children, brothers and sister’s and precious grand and great grandchildren is greater than words can say.
Barbara Jean was the matriarch of the family, her wisdom, her loving relationship with family and friends and her generosity to help whenever the need arises.
Barbara Jean was preceded in death by her husband, James K. Scott; parents, Howard and Lucille Abrought; two brothers: Howard and John Abrought; two sisters: Mamie Abrought Denson and Henrietta Abrought Cloyd; grandson, Chancellor Scott; granddaughter; Candice Scott; and her son-in-law, Bruce Reid
She leaves to cherish her memories- loving (always by momma’s side) daughter, Camelia Reid; her five loving (momma comes first) sons: John W. Goss Jr (Iris), James K. Scott Jr, Jeffrey K. Scott, Charles E. Scott, Jerome K. Scott (Monica); brother Henry Abrought; sisters: Mary Abrought Francis, Hallie Abrought Vessel, Georgianna Abrought Lewis, Carmalita Abrought Taylor; special sister-in-law, Marva Abrought; her loving, precious (24) grandchildren, (45) great-grandchildren, (10) great-great grandchildren, and a host of nephews, nieces, special friends, and neighbor, Joyce Jacoway, church family and friends.
