Bernice Mitchell, 60, transitioned from her earthly home in Kansas City, Missouri, to her heavenly home on October 11, 2018. She was born on November 9, 1956 in Kansas City, Missouri to Freddie Evans and Janie Mae Riley. She grew up in Kansas City, Missouri, and graduated from South East High School.
Barbara was a loving and devoted mother, sister, daughter, and friend. She loved gardening, listening to music, cooking, and most of all, two-stepping. She could two-step the night away. She enjoyed spending time with her grandbabies and always had a smile on her face. Even though she was battling with cancer, she never complained, as she always tried to make the best of each day. Mother was caring and loved her entire family and would always welcome you with open arms. She not only gave her four children an abundance of love, she made sure “we” knew she loved us. Family was everything to her, and sitting on her porch, enjoying a beautiful day was something she also loved to do. Enjoying life was all she knew.
She had just redecorated her home from top to bottom and was really overjoyed with the job she did to her master bath. She had a green thumb and could grow anything. She worked as the head chef at Mario’s on the Plaza for 18 years while raising her 4 children and really enjoyed bringing them the meals she prepared. If you were ever blessed to enjoy her home cooked meals, you knew how much love went into them.
Bernice is preceded into death by her sister; Maureen Riley, brothers; Willie Mitchell, Fredrick, and Thurman Mitchell, and her fathers; Freddie Evans, and James Riley.
She leaves to cherish her loving memories her mother; Janie Mae Riley, her daughter; Nyree Falkner sons; Donzell Falkner, Christopher Falkner, and James Falkner, her sister; Genice Nunn, brothers; Terry Mitchell, James Riley Jr., and Kevin Evans, grandchildren; Mortez, Deja, Donzell Jr., Steven, Stephon, Christopher Jr., Briyana, and Xazier, and one great-granddaughter; Trinity.
