Bertha McMickle, born in Helena, Arkansas, was a true soldier for the Lord—steadfast in her faith, generous in spirit, and resilient through every season of life. Her journey on this earth was marked by quiet strength, enduring love, and unwavering devotion to her family and her faith.
Bertha reached a family milestone, having lived to the remarkable age of 83, a testament to her strength and perseverance. A two-time cancer survivor, she faced health challenges and life’s hardships with courage, hope, and an unshakable belief in the power of prayer. Through it all, she remained a pillar of strength, touching the hearts of everyone around her with her patience, calm demeanor, and loving soul.
She was born into a large and close-knit family. As a devoted mother of 5, Bertha raised four children, instilling in them the values of hard work, faith, and family. She worked tirelessly to support her family, holding jobs at the Beloved Toy Factory, as a cook at Putsch’s Cafeteria in Kansas City, Missouri, housekeeping at Truman Medical Center East, and later as an orderly and housekeeper at Research Medical Center, from which she retired. In addition to these roles, she also cleaned houses as a side job, demonstrating both resilience and dedication to providing for her loved ones.
She lived with humor, cooked with love, and walked with God. Her life was a testimony of strength in adversity, joy in the little things, and the power of a loving heart. Whether she was offering a word of prayer, a hot meal, or a perfectly timed joke, Bertha McMickle gave all of herself.
She was preceded in death by her beloved daughter Teneshia McMickle, son Larry Williams, Mother May Belle Hudson, brothers Leroy Hudson Jr., Frank Raney, Larry Curtis Raney, and sister Nola Parrish, whose memories remained dear to her heart throughout her life.
Bertha’s ability to overcome adversity with grace, her steady presence, and her radiant personality are the legacy she leaves behind—a life lived with intention, compassion, and unbreakable faith. Bertha McMickle will be deeply missed and forever remembered.
