Betty J. Newton

Betty Jean Ward Newton was born August 11, 1942, in Tullahoma Tennessee to Mary Elizabeth Hargrove. At age 4, Betty moved to Nashville Tennessee, where she attended Nashville Metropolitan Area schools and graduated from Pearl High School.

After traveling and starting her family , she returned to Nashville to raise her three children.

Betty received her executive secretary certification. She started her career as a junior accountant at Meharry Medical College from 1973-1977. In 1977, Betty began her 27-year career at Ford Motor Company, that brought her and her family to Kansas City in 1984. Betty retired from Ford in 2004, and later worked at NPB as an usher for 9 years. Betty established lifelong friendships throughout her work journey.

Betty was an avid sports fan with a true love for baseball games and enjoyed spending her time gardening and was a member of the Kansas City Garden Club. She also loved traveling, and cycling. Betty loved people and was full of fun, love, and laughter..

Betty was a faithful member of Sheffield Family Life Center for 20 years.

Betty leaves to God’s keeping her children Kelli Williams (Joe), Fred Michael Newton Jr, Michelle Newton; devoted granddaughter Symone; grandchildren Joseph, Danielle, Elyse, Evan, Michael, Morgan, Yasmin, and Nathan; great children Heaven, Devyn, Daniel; sisters Alfreda Childress, Carla Jones (Ronald), and Sharon Hargrove; devoted niece LeAurice Brown; devoted cousin Shareefah Woodson.

Betty made her transition to her new life with Christ on June 9, 2023. She is joining her mother Mary E Hargrove and brothers Leroy Lloyd, Nathaniel Hargrove, Alvin Hargrove.

Betty was a loving mother, grandmother, aunt, and friend. She will be deeply missed by all who knew her!
