Betty Watts, 65, passed away on August 20, 2020 at home in Grandview, MO. She was born on September 15, 1954 in Kansas City, MO to Truman Williams and Jeanette Smith. She grew up in Kansas City, MO and graduated from Central High School in Kansas City, MO. After high school she attended Penn Valley Community College where she studied Business.

Betty gave her life to Christ at an early age. She was a lifelong member of Willis Chapel AME Church.

Betty worked at Fireman’s Fund Insurance early in her career. She later joined the United States Postal Service where she worked in various roles which allowed her to meet some amazing people and build long lasting friendships. She retired from the post office in 2009 after 30+ years. In addition to her work at the post office Betty was very good with finances, especially taxes, and worked as a Senior Tax Advisor at HR Block for 15 years.

In the winter of 1974 Betty met Jerry Watts and later had their first date at a bowling alley. They were married on May 14, 1976. Together they had 3 daughters and celebrated their 43rd wedding anniversary in May.

Betty was a devoted wife, mother, sister, daughter and friend. She enjoyed spending time with her family and being a sounding board for her daughters. One of her favorite weekly past times was spending the day shopping with her mom and sisters. Betty took great pride in being a grandmother and it showed in how much love she poured into her granddaughters. Each of her granddaughters were certain that they were her “favorite”. She never missed any of the many events in which her daughters and granddaughters were involved. Betty showed her family the meaning of unconditional selfless love daily.

Betty was preceded in death by her youngest daughter Caryn Watts, father Truman Williams, and her baby sister Karen Jordan.

She is survived by her husband, Jerry Watts, two daughters Kiesha (Leon) Sariah and Jeri (Marcus) Wright as well as her bonus children Tracy Tabron, Ahsan Washington and Carla (Mike) Leggs. Her mother Jeanette Smith. Her brother Bruce Williams and sisters Judy (Curtis) Briscoe and Joyce Brown.
