Ms. Bobbie Jewell Hayes, 77, passed away peacefully at home surrounded by loved ones on July 25, 2017. She fought a long history of failing health….
Bobbie was born in Dumas, Arkansas on December 11, 1939. She was the first child born to the union of Mr. Charlie and Mrs. Roberta Hayes. Her parents along with two brothers; Charlie Hayes & Joe Hayes; one god daughter, Erika Henderson; and brother-in-law, Deacon Sylvester Brown preceded her in death.
Bobbie received her education in the Dumas public school system and later received a certificate in dietary nutrition at Penn Valley Community College. At an early age Bobbie assumed the role of caregiver and never stopped. Bobbie was 13 years old when her mother passed, leaving Bobbie to care for her younger siblings. Bobbie picked cotton for many years to support her family. She was wise beyond her years and succeeded in every challenge she faced. Bobbie was the epitome of the independent woman before the term was popular. She left Dumas at 21, and moved to Kansas City with her three children at the request of the late Bishop W.B. Henderson and her cousin Mrs. Mary Lee Henderson. In a short time, Bobbie bought her first home, continued her education and became dietary nutrition supervisor. She was employed at the Baptist Medical Center and retired after 29 years where she never missed a day of work or called in sick.
Bobbie accepted Christ at a young age at Greater Mount Zion Baptist Church in Dumas, AR. After moving to Kansas City, she became a faithful member of Greater Mount Zion Missionary Baptist Church of Kansas City, MO joining under the leadership of the late Reverend Albert Colbert in 1970. She loved her church and remained devoted to the usher board for forty years until her health began to fail. She was a past Usher Board President and Treasurer. She was also very faithful to attending Sunday School, and early morning services. Bobbie was a true “Jewel” to her family. She was a wonderful cook and would prepare beautiful meals for her family/friends everyday while keeping an immaculate home. Her loved ones will forever miss her massive spirit and giving heart.
She leaves to cherish her memory and legacy: one loving daughter, Angela Moynett Hayes-Allen ; two sons, Larry Thomas & Billy (Darlene) Hayes; grandson Ronald (Canyae) Harris; two devoted sisters, Julia Brown & Annie Hayes; and two special nieces Tamika (Richard) Warfield & Tywanna Brown , two special great nieces Taijhona Warfield, and Aaryn Mae McClendon, one special great nephew; T’Juan Warfield. Her legacy continues through her four grandchildren; Maya Thomas, Justice Thomas, Tiffany Burdin, John Davis; five great-grandchildren, cousins, the 41st Block Family, and a host of other relatives and friends.
