Bobbie Jo Houston was born on July 4, 1957 in Kansas City, KS to Luke Roy and Lola Houston. Bobbie Jo was a great conversationalist, which shined through her service as a telecommunications switchboard operator for Crown Center.

In 1981, Bobbie Jo met Lathan Griffin, her life-long partner of more than 40 years in Kansas City, KS.

Bobbie Jo is preceded in death by her father, Luke Houston; her mother, Lola Houston; her twin sons, Joseph and Anthony Turner; her sister, Cellia Jean Houston and brother-in-law, Jerry Hollinshed.

Bobbie Jo is survived by her life-long partner Lathan Griffin; her sister, Deborah Hollinshed; her sons, Andre and Demarcus Houston, Sr.; her daughter, Teauntra Houston; her granddaughters, Alexus Baskin and Adri’anah Frye; her grandson, Demarcus Houston, Jr. and her great grandson, De’miri Houston.

Bobbie Jo was a dear friend, a mother figure and confidante to many, recognized as a godmother by Elisia Jackson, Santez Metcalf, Tristan and Corletta Luster.

She is best known for her favorite sayings “Holla Back!” and “Honey, Boom!” and absolutely loved listening to music: her all-time favorites being Mark Morrison, Keith Sweat, Luther Vandross and Patti LaBelle.

Bobbie Jo will be remembered as living her life the best way she knew how each and every day.
