Listen to Obituary

Bobby Lee Goodine was born November 7, 1944 in Athens, Tennessee to his parents Charles Vincent Howard Goodine (CV) and Beatrice Goodine. He was the oldest of nine children; six girls and three boys.

Bobby attended the Shiloh school in Rutherford County, Tennessee. It was there he became affiliated with The Church of Prophesy and developed a relationship with God. He traveled with the pastor and men of the church. His traveling increased his love for serving the people of God. Bobby was an ordained Deacon and Minister. He sang with the Men’s Chorus and was a faithful member at Deeper Life Christian Ministries.

Bobby had a host of interesting jobs. He was a caddy at the Cleveland Golf Course, an over the road truck driver for Coca-Cola and a utility work at Ford Motor Company where he worked for 18 years and retired. Bobby traveled so much that he was given the name, “Roadrunner”. In his travels, he fell in love with Kansas City, Mo. He stated that once he stopped driving trucks he would settle down there.

Bobby met Betty Jackson at New Home Church of God in Christ, where her father was the Pastor. He walked to church on a Sunday and sat behind her. During the service he asked her if one of the men sitting in the pulpit was her husband. She responded, “No”. After service, Betty took Bobby home, so he wouldn’t have to walk and that’s where their story began. Bobby didn’t have transportation during their courtship, so he would walk and take the bus to go and visit her. They got married on July 31, 1977. They were married for 41 years when Bobby passed.

Bobby was a very quiet and mild-mannered man. He loved being around his family and extended family. In his alone time, if he wasn’t completing a crossword puzzle, putting a puzzle together or watching an action movie or Perry Mason (which was his favorite), he was in the Word of God. Bobby had his own biblical library. He would get up early or stay up late just to be in the Word. He had one message and that was “Love”. Bobby truly felt that if people loved like the Word told us to, the world would be a better place. He would say that people used love against each other. Meaning, people would and wouldn’t do things for people because of love. He hated to see division, especially in the family and church.

He was preceded in death by his mother, Beatrice Goodine, father Charles Goodine and sisters Wilma Goodine, ZoAnn Cox and Sylvia Clark-Goodine. He is survived by his wife Betty Goodine, daughter Kea’ (Ashton) Cole, grandson’s Ashton Cole Jr. and Jacob Cole. His siblings Dorothy Stevenson (Los Angeles, CA), Nellie (Larry) Shropshire (Dalton, GA), Peggy Goodine (Cleveland, TN), Dennis (Virginia) Goodine (Cleveland, TN) and Charles Goodine (Kentucky). He is also survived by a host of in-laws, nieces, nephews, cousins, aunts, uncles and friends.
