Listen to Obituary

Carolyn Ann Matthews was born on June 6, 1943 to the union of Cleve and Virginia Yarbrough. Carolyn was a very loving, extremely giving family oriented soul. She loved being around her children, grandchildren, family and friends. She loved cooking, crafting, and was a talented seamstress. She also loved fishing for crawfish.

In 1984, she moved to New Orleans, LA, where she met and married her husband Willie Matthews. She adored her husband and spoiled him as much he spoiled his “Ann”, as he affectionately called her. Early on in their marriage, they both surrendered their life to Christ. She was a member of Little Zion Church in Kenner, LA until moving back to KC in 2014. She touched many lives with her loving and giving spirit. She gently bowed out on May 30th, 2017 and transitioned into Glory.

She was preceded in death by her husband of 32 years, Wille Matthews, both parents; Cleve and Virginia Yarbrough, one brother; Lawrence W. Yarbrough, Sr., three sisters; Virginia Whitehead, Mary Dixon, and Barbara, McCrary, her paternal and maternal grandparents.

She leaves to cherish her memories her “only son” William C Boyd, Jr., four daughters, Telitha R. Wyatt, Carmella D. Boyd-Bolen, Traci L. Eberra, and Virginia Y. Holland; five stepsons, Willie Danks, Andre Braunfield, Lester Brown, Alfred Danks, and Arthur Brown; two stepdaughters, Evelyn Danks and Aundreanette Johnson (Herman); Seventeen grandchildren, and 15 great grandchildren; two brothers, Vernon C. Yarbrough and Clarence L. Yarbrough; three sisters, Pricilla Eichelberger of Aurora CO, Marrietta March (LaVelle) of Atlanta, GA, and Vicki Yarbrough of Dallas, TX and one sister-in-law, Mary Sanxton (Franklin) of New Orleans, LA. She also leaves one uncle and three aunts. She claimed as her own son-in-law’s; Clifford J. Griffin Jr., and Cleveland R. Bolen Sr., a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends. She leaves her sister-friend, Millie Washington. Carolyn Ann will be truly missed.
