Celeste E Owens

Celeste Owens, 71, passed away April 4, 2020 at Research Medical Center in Kansas City, Missouri. She was born February 10, 1949 in Kansas City, Missouri to William E. Humphrey, Sr., and Maggie Lee Humphrey. She grew up in Kansas City, Missouri and graduated from Central High School.

After graduating high school, Celeste worked various jobs such as Phillips Oil Co. and IBM. Celeste was going to school to become a nurse when the Lord changed her journey to become a licensed cosmetologist/beautician which she did for over 40 years. She even owned her own beauty shop, Celeste Upstairs Beauty Salon for over 35 years. While serving as a licensed beautician, Celeste earned an Associate’s degree in Accounting from Penn Valley Community College and worked other jobs also. In the early 1990s Celeste began working for the Kansas City School District as an Attendance Clerk from which she retired.

On November 23, 1968, Celeste married Veotis Owens to which three children were born from this union. Her husband and a child preceded her in death. Also preceding her in death were her grandparents, parents and two brothers, William and Dewayne Humphrey. She is survived by her son, Stephen Owens; daughter, Gina Owens both of Kansas City; three sisters, Rita Humphrey, Glenda Humphrey, and Pamela Humphrey; one brother Kenneth Humphrey, all of Kansas City. She is also survived by a host of nieces, nephews, and very special friends who live across the United States.
