His mother passed away in November 1946, and a good friend of the family, Cora Holmes, took Charles in.

While Charles was never married and had no children, he played a significant role in the lives of his nieces and nephews who affectionately called him “Uncle Chuck” or “Unk.”
He and his sister Shirley were close, and she was there by his side until his transition. Charles loved his family, friends, and classmates and will be greatly missed.
