Charles Anthony Mitchem, lovingly known as "Chuck" or "Tony", of Kansas City, Kansas, passed away on Monday, November 17th, 2025, at the age of 70.

Charles was born on April 9, 1955, in Kansas City, Kansas, to Nathaniel and Willie Jewell Mitchem. As a child, he developed a lifelong love for basketball and attended the Kansas City, Kansas Public School District. He graduated from Wyandotte High School and later proudly served in the United States Army, receiving an honorable discharge in 1979.

Throughout his life, Charles built his legacy with his hands. A skilled carpenter, known for his remarkable ability to repair, remodel, and transform countless homes. He later joined the Kansas City Kansas Housing Authority, where he worked faithfully for 15 years before retiring in July 2020.

A true sports enthusiast, Charles enjoyed watching every game, catching every highlight, and even rewatching games when nothing else was on TV. His favorite team—the San Antonio Spurs—held a special place in his heart.

Charles cherished spending time with family and friends, especially while playing cards, dominoes, or bowling. He also spent many enjoyable hours at the Woodlands, where he loved watching the dog races. Known for his warm smile and infectious laugh, Charles never met a stranger. He had a unique ability to make everyone feel seen, valued, and welcomed.

Charles was preceded in death by his father, Nathaniel Mitchem; stepfather Rev. Dr. Hyman Jarrett Sr. ;brother, Terry L. Mitchem Sr.; grandparents, Opal and Pearl McDaniel and Anderson and Areather Mitchem; great-grandparents, Dave and Willie Gunnells; great-uncle, JT Gunnells; two aunts, Joycesteen Mintz and Madeline Stephens (Johnny); and nephew, Brandon Mitchem.

He leaves to cherish his memory his mother, Willie Jewell Jarrett; daughter, Marika Logan (Santana); brothers, Bertram Mitchem and Hyman Jarrett Jr.; sisters, Deanna Mitchem, Maria Hill (Marcus), and Natalie Mitchem; uncles, Terrel Mitchem, James Mintz; aunt, Maxine Reed; great-aunt, Mattie Gunnells; grandson, Santana aka Tana; granddaughters, Santaja and Breeianna; great-granddaughters, Serenity, Skylir, Aniya, and Ariya; his ex-wife and best friend, Carmen Hayes; and best friend of many years, Alfred Belton. He is also survived by a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends who loved him deeply.

Charles touched countless lives with his kindness, humor, and generous spirit. His presence will be profoundly missed and forever remembered.
