Charlie E. Sims, Jr. was born on May 12, 1944 in Glendora, Mississippi to the union of Charlie E. Sims, Sr. and Christine Sims. He was preceded in death by his parents; step mother, Tinnie Sims; two sisters, Polita Mae Johnson and Bernita Thomas McCain; one brother, James C. Sims (J.C.); two nephews, Ora Dickerson III and Isaiah Harris III.

Charlie graduated from Lincoln High School in 1962 where he played all major sports in basketball, football, track and swimming. He was employed at BNSF Railroad as a Switchman Conductor for 37 years until his health started failing.

Charlie was married to Sandra Shaw and to this union two children was born, Charlie E. Sims III and Shawn L. Sims. He also had a son Darrell L. Booker, Sr. (Rozenia Booker-Mother). He then married Marilyn Mitchell and to this union one son Ray L. Sims was born and two step children, Brian (Ricky) Mitchell and Jaimi L. Mitchell.

Charlie E. Sims Jr. was affectionately known over the years as “Capt. C,

Baby Brother, The Legend and DJ Charlie C”. He went to be with the Lord on 02/02/2019.

Charlie accepted Christ and was baptized at an early age in the Mound Bayou River in Glendora, MS. He later moved to Kansas City and joined the Emanuel Baptist Church under the leadership of Rev. W. H. White. He was currently a member of New Vision Christian church under the leadership of his nephew, Dr. Kevin L. Harris Sr., Pastor where he served as a Greeter and an active participate in the Men of Character.

Charlie was very active in the Midwest Bowlers Guild where he received one ring for bowling an 800 series and two rings for bowling 300, which is a perfect game. He was a part of the Jive Turkey Bowling Club and Just Us Social Club. He loved playing dominos, bid whiz, playing all card games (while sneaking naps in between his plays). He liked fishing and felt he could Bar-B-Que better than any family member or friend. He loved having family and friends over for gatherings. He enjoyed his midnight runs to the Casinos. Actually, ‘The Legend’ enjoyed life and lived it to the fullest.

He leaves to cherish his memories, three sons: Charlie E. Sims III (Atlanta, GA), Darrell L. Booker, Sr. (Angie) and Ray L. Sims (Kansas City, MO); one daughter, Shawn L. Sims (Atlanta, GA); four sisters, Clotee Harris (Isaiah), Porchia Payton, Doretta Kidd (Johnny), CaChella Sims; one brother, Ronald W. Thomas (New Haven, CT); four grand-children, Darrell L. Booker Jr., Breauna M. Booker, Darrion J. Booker, Brandon Bruggerman and a host of nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles, cousins and friends.
