Cheryll Y. White was born on December 24, 1950, in Kansas City, Kansas, to the union of Nelson Shields and Elizabeth Shields and resided in the Kansas City area most of her life.
Cheryll was a Debutante in the 1967 Debutante Ball of Kansas City. She graduated from Southeast High School in 1968. Shortly after graduation, she attended the University of Missouri.
Cheryll was passionate about education and community service. In 1987, she served as the president of Parade Park Homes, overseeing a nine-member board of directors of this co-operative housing complex. She also worked with the Unified Contractors of Kansas City (formerly the Minority Contractors Association). In 1988, she attended Georgia Tech and earned her certification as an environmental contractor in removing asbestos abatement and underground storage tanks from older or damaged buildings. Shortly after receiving her certification from Georgia Tech, she would start her own environmental contracting company, becoming one of the few Black-owned environmental contracting companies in the Kansas City area during the late 80s and early 90s.
Cheryll loved to study the Word of the Most High. She also enjoyed reading and collecting books. Cheryll enjoyed watching movies, documentaries, house development reality shows, and outdoor survival reality shows. She also enjoyed attending plays and symphony concerts. She enjoyed watching many different sports and was a big Chiefs, Royals, and Yankees fan. She also enjoyed traveling and spending time with family and loved ones.
She was predeceased by both parents and sister Chrystal A. Henry.
She is survived by her son Christopher White, Kansas City, Missouri; grandchildren Shakera White, Christopher White Jr., and Hadassah White; brothers Nelson Shields and Kenny Shields; sisters JaNae M. Haygood and Denise D. Williams; and a host of cousins, nephews, nieces, and extended family and friends.
