Cordell “CJ” Pulluaim — beloved brother, uncle, son, and friend — earned his wings on April 27, 2026. Cordell was born on November 20, 1985, in Kansas City to Rachel Pulluaim and Paul Tounzell.
Cordell, lovingly known as “CJ,” was the eldest of six siblings and a guiding presence within his family. He attended Paseo High School and later graduated from the University of Missouri–Kansas City with a bachelor’s degree in history. Education was something he valued deeply, and he found great joy in tutoring children and helping others learn and grow.
In spite of the challenging health issues he faced throughout his life, CJ maintained a vibrant spirit and a love for life that was felt by everyone around him. He had a deep love for music and was a devoted fan of Beyoncé. Some of his favorite things included cooking — especially his beloved tacos — karaoke, hosting games during the holidays, and creating unforgettable memories filled with laughter and singing alongside family and friends.
CJ was deeply involved in his community and dedicated his time to many organizations. He participated in the NAACP NextGen Leadership Program, was a proud member of Phi Beta Sigma Fraternity, Inc., co-founded Fresh, Fly, and Smart, served as a radio show host with K-Roo Radio at UMKC, worked as an office assistant in Diversity and Inclusion at UMKC, and was a student ambassador at Metropolitan Community College. His warmth, humor, and genuine heart made him someone that people naturally gravitated toward.
CJ will be remembered for his love of learning, his joyful spirit, and the deep bonds he shared with those closest to him. His presence will be greatly missed, but his impact will continue to live on in the countless lives he touched.
He is survived by his mother, Rachel Pulluaim; his brothers: Frenchy Pulluaim, Willie Pulluaim, Sedrick Pulluaim, and Paul Tounzell Jr.; his sisters: Ramiko Pulluaim, Rashaun Pulluaim, Kimko Tounzel and Ebonique Tounzell; along with a host of aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces, nephews, extended family members, and friends who will forever cherish his memory and legacy.
