“I have fought the good fight. I have finished the race. I have kept the faith” – 2 Timothy 4:7-8
It is with tremendous sorrow and tenderness of heart that we acknowledge the passing of our beloved Daniel Maurice Moon. We know that the earthly loss is Heaven’s gain, for we know that to be absent from the body is to be present with the Lord.
Daniel was born the youngest child of four from the late June and May Ellen Moon in Memphis, TN on November 29, 1957. He enjoyed a full and loving childhood on Kingsview Drive where he gained lifelong friendships.
He acquired his formative education in Memphis, TN and was involved in many activities with his church, school, and community. He shared many fond memories of his childhood adventures, and his family always enjoyed hearing stories about his bowling team and tap dance lessons!
After graduating from Hamilton High School in Memphis, he attended The University of Tennessee where he met and then married the love of his life Joletta McCray Moon. Together the couple had three children: Tiana, Janna, and Donna and one grandson, Eli. While living in Knoxville he formed lasting relationships with countless people and began his love of UT athletics, especially football.
Daniel began his career with Norfolk Southern Railroad in 1978 in Knoxville. Over his tenure with the railroad, he was able to advance up the corporate latter while moving his family around the country. He dedicated his life to Christ at a young age and was a steadfast AME Zion member. Through his many promotions and relocations, Daniel was always involved with his church community. At his final church home, St. Mathew AME Zion church in Kansas City, MO, he served as the chairman of the Trustee Board.
He was committed to the Lord and was a devoted husband, father, and grandfather. Daniel enjoyed spending time with his family; traveling being their favorite passion. As his children grew creating families of their own, the Moon’s have always prioritized quality time and traveling with each other.
Daniel was preceded in death by his loving parents June Moon and May Ellen Moon, and two sisters: Jacqueline White and Donna Griffin.
He leaves to treasure his memory, his loving wife Joletta Moon, brother Jeffrey Moon, children Tiana (Geoffery) Adams, Janna (Camille) Moon, and Donna Moon, his grandson Eli “Baby Baby” Adams and the family pet Roscoe, along with a host of extended family and friends.
