Darrick Rhodes, Sr.

Darrick Eugene Rhodes Sr. born on September 16, 1959, in Kansas City, MO to Hazel Yarbro and stepfather Clyde Yarbro. He passed away unexpectedly on July 1, 2021. Darrick grew up in Kansas City, Missouri where he graduated from Southeast High School. After graduation, Ricky joined the United States Army where he was stationed in Mannheim, Germany. Upon completing active duty, he enlisted for a few more years in the Army reserves of which he was very proud. During this time, he also began his career at the Kansas City Power & Light Company.

Those of us who knew and loved Darrick know he was a huge sports fan always rooting for every Missouri sports team. He was a diehard Chiefs, Royals, and Missouri Tigers fan. He would even go to the games and keep handwritten stats on individual players and teams. His beloved teams are one of many things he enjoyed along with jazz music, live concerts, and being the best dressed everywhere. When Darrick showed up, he was coordinated and nicely dressed for all occasions, always accented with his signature hat.

He will be remembered as a loving father, son and brother. He is survived by his son Darrick E. Rhodes Jr and Markita McGill (stepdaughter), Grandson Devin Kitchen, mother Hazel Yarbro, siblings Rodney and Clyde, nieces Brittany and Nia, nephews Tyren, Dionte’, and De’Wuan; Aunts and Uncles, Herman Fulson, Rudolph Rhodes III (Ruth), Reginald Rhodes (Donna), Regina Shade (Kenneth), and Rosalind Shelton (Arthur).

Preceding him in death, stepfather Clyde Yarbro, grandmother Vernetta Rhodes, grandfather Rudolph Rhodes II (Helen), uncles Billy Rhodes, Roland Rhodes and Larry Fulson.

Ricky will be dearly missed by all who knew and loved him.
