David Anthony Morrow, Sr. passed away at his home in Kansas City, Missouri, at the age of 72 on November 29, 2023. David was born in Kansas City, Kansas to Eddie Mae and George W. Morrow Sr. He attended Douglass Elementary School in Kansas City, Kansas, later the family moved to Kansas City, Missouri where he attended the Kansas City, Missouri Public Schools. He went on to achieve his GED and then attended the Kansas City Art Institute to pursue his dream of becoming a world renown artist and writer. He published a book titled, “If the Devil Would Only Die”. A record of his art works, writing and biography are a part of “The Artist File Initiative in the Nelson-Atkins Museum of Art’s Spencer Art Reference Library.” David worked various jobs while pursuing his art dream. He was an Engraver, BPU Meter Reader, Behavioral Health Technician, and thereafter retired to pursue his love of art.
David was a child of God with a wonderful heart who loved family and never met a stranger. In his own words, “I am who I am, another guy, an Ex-Marine, a father, a son, a brother, an uncle, a grandfather, a divorcee, an American, an artist, a health care worker, a published author, an imperfect human being, a friend and a God-fearing man who loves his God, his country and his family”. David’s smile would lighten up any room and he loved to sing. He will be sorely missed by his family and friends.
David Anthony Morrow, Sr. was preceded in death by his parents Eddie Mae Cook, Elmer Cook Jr. and George W. Morrow, Sr. two brothers, Lonnie W. Williams Sr., and Gregory R. Morrow Sr., granddaughter Jasmine Elston; niece Christina Francis, and nephew Erick Johnson, Sr.
David is survived by his son, David A. (Michele) Morrow, Jr of Lee’s Summit, Missouri and daughter, Kelly Lynn Applequist of Gladstone, Missouri, three brothers (George (Debra) Morrow, Jr. of Kansas City, Missouri, Eddie Morrow of Kansas City, Missouri, Mark (Mandy) Morrow of Basehor, Kansas; four sisters Linda Johnson of Kansas City, Missouri, Rosemary (Wayne) Thompson of Kansas City, Missouri, Rita (Pete) Pulliam of Olathe Kansas, and Luvenia Cook of Kansas City, Kansas, six grandchildren; Davon, Chandler, Savon, Samara, Steve, and Paige, three great-grandchildren; Syana, Marlaya, and Pyerre, a lifelong special friend and companion for over 45 years Hazel McAllister of Lee’s Summit, Missouri, a life-long friend from his childhood; Stanford Wheeler of Kansas City, Missouri, and a host of cousins, nieces, nephews, aunts and uncles.
