Mrs. Delores J. Lewis Delores Jean Lewis was born on September 21, 1940, the daughter of George and Leotta Lawrence. Her parents, daughter LaTrice Lewis, and brother, Robert Sayles, preceded her in death. She was educated in Tulsa, Oklahoma Public Schools and graduated in 1958 from Booker T. Washington High School. She professed her faith and love of Jesus Christ at an early age. She joined Second Baptist Church, under the leadership of Rev. Roy A. Reed. She was active in Sunday School and Martha Mission Circle. She later joined the Palestine Missionary Baptist Church, under the leadership of Rev. Earl Abel. Upon uniting with the church, she remained faithful and active as a participant on the "Greeters" committee. On June 14, 1959, she was united in marriage to Leon F. Lewis. To this union one daughter and three sons were born. Delores was a devoted wife and mother, one who always put the interests of her family first. She saw to it that her children were given the best she could provide, in loving care, spiritual nourishment, and material comforts. The example she lived day by day will forever be a goal for her family to strive to reach. Her love and influence will continue through the lives and deeds of those she touched and whom she loved dearly. She enjoyed crafts and gardening. She was very gifted as an interior designer, seamstress, and at upholstering antique furniture for her home. While raising her children, Delores was a stay-at-home mom. She was employed with Koehler & Dramm Inc. Wholesale Florist until she retired. She had a passion for flowers and spent many hours creating beautiful flower arrangements that were admired by many. She leaves to cherish her memory: her loving husband, Leon F. Lewis, Sr.; one daughter, June L. Mason; three sons, Leon F. Lewis, Jr. (Yvette), Don Lewis, and Brian Lewis (Juanita) of Kansas City, MO; two brothers, D Norvel C. Lawrence (Wilma) of Tulsa, Oklahoma and Donald Sayles (Lillie) of Kansas City, Kansas; six grandchildren; seventeen great-great grandchildren; one special cousin, Ray Sawyer of Excelsior Springs, Missouri; and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives, and friends.
