Demetrius Smith Jr., lovingly known as Meechie, was born on January 9, 2009, to Demetrius Smith Sr. and Carmeletta Johnson. He was deeply loved from the very beginning and brought joy to the lives of his family in a way that words can hardly express. Meechie accepted Christ at a young age and was raised surrounded by love, family, and the people who cherished him most.
Meechie attended Ruskin High School and was truly one of a kind. He had a fun spirit and a personality that people naturally gravitated toward. Being around Meechie meant laughing, joking, and never knowing what he was going to say or do next. He was the type to randomly pop up at somebody’s house unannounced just to joke around, hang out, eat, or simply be around the people he loved.
Meechie enjoyed making TikToks, dancing, gaming on Roblox, listening to music, and spending time with family and friends. Half the time he was either recording something, dancing somewhere he probably had no business dancing, or making everybody laugh with the things he said and did. Anybody who really knew Meechie also knew one thing for sure — don’t mess with his hairline. He loved staying fresh, loved fashion, and carried himself with a confidence that his family lovingly laughed about often.
He enjoyed basketball, swimming, cooking, traveling, and trying new things. Meechie was adventurous and never afraid to experience life for himself. In the kitchen, the air fryer was one of his favorite things to use, and if he cooked something, he was definitely going to make sure everybody knew about it. He also loved cars, especially anything with a Hemi engine. If a car sounded good or looked good, Meechie probably already noticed it before anybody else did.
More than anything, Meechie loved his family. He showed up for the people he cared about and brought a kind of energy that made ordinary moments feel special. To his nieces, he was lovingly known as “Peachie.” They adored him, and the bond they shared was filled with laughter, love, and memories that will forever be treasured.
Meechie was also an amazing son. The bond between him and his mother was something special that everybody around them could see. She lovingly called him “Meech the Geech,” a nickname that reflected the closeness and love they shared. No matter how much he joked around or tried to act grown, Meechie was still his mother’s baby, and the love between them was undeniable.
Though his life was far too short, Meechie leaves behind memories that will forever live on through the people who loved him most. His laughter, dancing, jokes, random pull ups, and unforgettable spirit will continue to echo through the hearts of those blessed enough to know him.
Though the loss of Meechie is diƯicult for his family to understand, they find comfort in knowing he is reunited once again with his brother, Stephon McCoy. The thought of the two of them together brings peace to hearts that continue to mourn such a tremendous loss.
