Dessie Moore

Mother Dessie Mae Adeline Gaither Moore was born in Crocketts Bluff, Arkansas.  She was the 4th child born to the union of Rev. Thomas Issac and Sarah Chambers Gaither.  She graduated from Immanuel High in Almyra, Arkansas.  She was preceeded in death by her parents and sisters, Katherine Stigger, Mae Lene King, Ersa Lene Hodge, Hazel Callahan, Icemree Rosezine Brown, and Betty Austin. She accepted Christ at an early age and was united with St. Olive Missionary Baptist Church in Dewitt, Arkansas under the leadership of Rev. M.L. Bradley.  On August 14, 1953, she was united in holy matrimony to Willie B. Moore. To this union 3 girls and 3 boys were born.  In 1960, she and her husband moved their family to Kansas City, Missouri.  She then united with Freewill Baptist Church.  In 1968, she united with the Evangelist Temple Church of God In Christ under the leadership of the Late Bishop S.R. Chambers. She served faithfully as a Prayer Warrior, member of Usher Board and Missionary Boards.  She served as the President of the Mother’s Board until her transition to Glory. She worked in laundry at the Muehlebach Hotel and then worked for the Kansas City Missouri School District as a Cook/Baker for 21 years until her retirement.  Most notably she worked at Horace Mann and Katherine B. Richardson Elementary Schools.   She touched the lives  of many former students that attended during her tenure there.  After her retirement from the school district she worked for St. Luke’s Home Health Care and Bethlehem Home Health Care up until the age of 80. Family was most important to Mother Moore. After the death of her husband in 1981,  she remained faithful and dedicated to family even as a widowed parent. Cooking was her passion - she cooked Sunday dinner for her family every Sunday until her death. Even if you could not make it to dinner she offered you “to go” plates. Often inviting her children to stop by during the week to pick up food. She would always remember birthdays by sending a card to her siblings, children and grandchildren. Her spiritual calling was visiting the sick and shut in.  Always caring for the elderly in her neighborhood which led to her interest as a Health Care Homemaker. She enjoyed traveling  to Arkansas to visit her siblings and extended family. She also traveled annually to the Evangelist Temple Convocations across The United States and recently to the International Church of God In Christ Holy Convocation in St. Louis, Missouri.  Mother Moore enjoyed praising God - often speaking at her church at the Tuesday evening  Missionary services, Women’s Day at the Evangelist Temple Convocations and other church programs.  In addition to her work in her home church,  she would visit many churches throughout the city encouraging  Pastors and Ministers.  She never met a stranger and making friends everywhere she went, always offering an encouraging word.  She would never miss her semi-weekly Prayer Line. She was preceded in death by her husband Deacon Wille B. Moore and her oldest son, William Henry Moore. She leaves to cherish her memory:  her children, Sharon Allen, Barbara (John) Lunn, Carl Moore, Cynthia Moore and Kenneth Moore of Kansas City, MO; 12 grandchildren, Erica (Lenny), Michael, Jillian, Carl Jr., Shannon, Bryan, Jamillia (Kuuku), John IV (Trejuanna), Angel, Kiana, Kayla and Da’Niro; 6 great grandsons, Gabriel Jr., Leo, Jewell, Bryan Jr., Kweku and Ekow ; brother, Earnett (Karen) Gaither of Stuttgart, ARK;  Sister-in-law, Erma Lee Mack of Kansas City, MO; Brother-in-laws, Johnny Moore of Lincoln, NE, James Buckner of Kansas City, MO and Norman Austin of Stuttgart, Arkansas; and a play son, Denard (Renita) Mitchell. She also leaves a host of Nieces, Nephews, Church Family and many Friends.
