Devon Javan-Lee Durham was born April 21, 1999, in Kansas City, Missouri, to Natasha Sutherland and Dewayne Durham at Saint Luke's Medical Center.
He was preceded in death by his paternal grandparents and maternal great-grandparents.
Devon accepted Christ at an early age. He was baptized at Corinthian Missionary Baptist Church of Jesus Christ under the direction of Pastor Reverend B.G. Roberson.
He graduated from Center Senior High School in 2017, where he played football and participated in other activities.
Devon was a beacon of light to be around; he brought so much joy and laughter to the room and made a lasting impression on anyone he crossed paths with.
As a little boy, he was very energetic. If Devon wanted to do it, he was going to do it no matter what. He wasn’t afraid to be who he was around anyone. He had this way of making you feel included and drawn to his spirit.
Devon loved video games and, at one point, thought he was a rapper by the name of D.J. Nugget.
On Saturday mornings, he would watch the Nature Channel with his Papa, and this was where his obsession with finding Bigfoot came from. Although he never found him, he was able to fulfill a lifetime dream in a recent visit to Colorado. He fulfilled a lifetime dream by visiting several Bigfoot sighting locations that he had talked about every day since that visit. Devon was a talker. In Devon's short 26 years on this earth, he traveled and accomplished a lot.
His proudest moment was the birth of his son, Elijah “Eli.” He loved his son with all his heart and spoke of all the things he couldn’t wait to show him as he grew up.
Devon will forever be remembered for how he loved and his devotion to family.
He leaves behind treasures of his memory: one son, Elijah Durham; mother, Natasha Sutherland (Henry), of Kansas City, Missouri; father, Dewayne Durham (Regina), of Greenville, Mississippi; his fiancé, Alyssa Wherrell, of Wichita, Kansas; brother, Christian Durham; sister, Adriana Sutherland; maternal grandparents: Roy and Andrea Davis, all of Kansas City, Missouri; grandparents by marriage, Cornel and Jimmie Blakey, of Raymore, Missouri; stepbrothers and stepsisters of Kansas City, Missouri; and a host of aunts, uncles, cousins, and friends.
