DeWayne Alfred Tyler, Sr, 66, passed away on Monday, December 13, 2021, at St. Luke’s East Hospital in Lee Summit, MO. He was born on August 7, 1955, in Kansas City, MO to Leroy H. Tyler, Sr and Myra M. Tyler. DeWayne graduated from Central High School.
DeWayne was a true family man, and you did not have to be family for him to call you family. He enjoyed being outdoors fishing, hunting with family and friends, playing football in high school, playing softball, bowling, watching the Chiefs, and most of all coaching baseball from Swope Park to 43rd and Cleveland to Satchel Paige Stadium and Clark Ketterman Park.
DeWayne loved being in the country, Hiawatha, Kansas and Horton, Kansas, where he enjoyed family time. Dewayne enjoyed spending time at his childhood home sitting on the porch with his siblings and watching his nieces and nephews run around playing. Traveling was another love of his, our Branson trips all 30 of us boating, eating, and spending time together. DeWayne was involved in the VFW Post 8100 as Commander. He enjoyed breakfast and events at the VFW with family and friends. DeWayne was a Pipe Fitter for 46 years for Local 533 and remained a faithful member and helped to create Fishing for Freedom Truman Lake. DeWayne recently gave his life to Christ and became a member of This Rock Christian Tabernacle.
DeWayne loved all of his grandkids and took them everywhere and taught them life skills. Most of all his sense of humor and love for family will be greatly missed.
DeWayne was preceded in death by both of his parents, infant siblings, one sister, Tawana Tyler and one brother, Leroy Tyler, Jr.
DeWayne is survived by his daughter, Daphane Preston (Gregory); one son, DeWayne Tyler, Jr.; grandchildren, Davion Tyler, Gregory Preston II, Tyler Preston, Isley Tyler, and Nijla Preston; two great-grandchildren, Aubri Tyler, and Aaliyah Tennant; four brothers, Arley Tyler, Christopher (Susan) Tyler, Darren (Rhonda) Tyler, and Anthony (Donna) Tyler; four sisters, Beverly King, his twin sister, Dawn Tyler-Hampton, Darra Tyler (Marcus) and Sherilyn Tyler; his second daughter, Melissa Williams; and host of nieces, nephews, great nieces, great nephews, several cousins, a host of coworkers, former classmates and friends.
