Dondrelle Gates

Dondrelle Gates, age 57, passed away on June 6, 2026, at his home, in Kansas City, Missouri.

Dondrelle Gates, lovingly called “Don” by family and friends, was born on September 15, 1968, in Clarksdale, Mississippi to Maggie Ree Gates. Don Gates grew up in Kansas City, MO and attended school in the Kansas City, MO School District and graduated from Central High School in 1986.

Don was raised to have a relationship with God. He was baptized at a young age at Sunrise Baptist Church where he was active on the usher board and in the choir. Don enjoyed singing in the choir best.

Don worked in the custodial/housekeeping field all his life until his health failed.

Don lived in KCMO until he moved to Atlanta, GA in 2016 and lived there until 2022 before moving back to KCMO to be closer to family. Don loved spending time with his family, bar-b-queing, and was a big Chiefs fan. He called his mom every single day just to check up on her and make sure she was feeling good.

Don was preceded into death by his grandmother, Minnie Gates Funderburk and two aunts, Aggie Lee Gates and Early Mae Gates.

He is survived by his mother, Maggie Ree Gates Wilson, of KCMO; his sister, Kimberly M. Borders (James) of KCMO; one uncle, Elbert Gates of KCMO; two nieces, Autumn gates and Asia Faulkner (Justin); three great nephews, three great nieces, nine cousins that were like brothers and sisters, Elbert Terry Gates (Catina) of KCMO, Renee Gates of KCMO, Shantia Gates of KCMO, Tina Willingham (Booker) of KCMO, Kenny Gates of KCMO, Minnie Gates of KCMO, Sidney Gates of KCMO, Tyrone Gates of KCMO, and Anthony Gates of KCMO, and a host of other relatives and friends.
