Dorothy was the last child born to the union of Roosevelt and Sara Madison in Shreveport, Louisiana. Her parents and all eight siblings preceded her in death.
Dorothy graduated from Argentine High School in 1963. She received her LPN in May 1964 from KU Medical Center. She went back to school 1969 and received a diploma as an RN in 1972 from St. Luke's Hospital School of Nursing. She had a love for education and earned a BA in Psychology, MA in Guidance and Counseling, and a Ed Specialist in Education Administration.
Dorothy was united in marriage to Robert "Sam" Jones in 1965. Two sons were born to this union, Robert Samuel Jones Jr., "Flip", and Mark Anthony Jones.
Dorothy accepted Christ at Second Baptist Church at the age of five years old. Rev. Roy A. Reed was her pastor until he died many years later. She was an active member of Second Baptist. She started teaching Sunday School at age 18 and taught in some capacity most of the time while she attended SBC. She was active in the Mission, attended BTU and Bible Study. She was the Coordinator of the Good News Club for many years and served as a Deaconess. She united with Concord Fortress of Hope Church in 2014 under the leadership of Senior Pastor Ronald Lindsey. She served on the repast team, the Women of Purpose, and the Mother Board.
Dorothy leaves to cherish her memory her beloved spouse Robert S. Jones Sr. (Lees Summit, MO); two sons, Robert "Flip" Jones Jr. (Kimberly) of Belton, Mo, Mark A. Jones (Michelle) of Kansas City, MO; two daughters Janette Michelle Holland (Richard) of Allen, Texas and Chrystal A. Jonaus (Pierre) of Chester, Virginia; one brother by choice Percy Dean of Kansas City, MO; her mother-in-law Norma J. Jones of Paris, Texas; six grandchildren, Melea Jones, Nikita Minor, Nia Robinson, Raven Robinson, DeLaun Robinson, and Mark Mekhi Jones; and a host of nieces, nephews, relatives and friends. One nephew Robert E. Madison (Carolyn) was raised as her little brother.
She was "Aunt Dot" or Momma Jones to many. Up until her passing, she would receive calls and visits from the many young men and women she nurtured over the years. She was an excellent cook and always made people she just met feel like family in her home. Her two greatest loves were her Lord "The Maker" as she called Him and her family.
2 Tim. 4:7 says, " I fought the good fight, I have finished the course, I have kept the faith."
