Dorothy Porter, 88, passed away on June 1, 2024, at St. Luke's Hospital in Kansas City, MO. She was born on May 2, 1936, in Yazoo City, MS. to Anderson Wheeler and Videlia Haymer.
She grew up in Benton MS. She graduated from Linwood High School in Benton, MS. After school she began work for Kay’s Fashion as a salesperson where she worked for 25 years.
She was involved in Treasure of the Mother Board and a choir member.
She married the love of her life Robert Porter on June 8, 1986, in Kansas City, MO. They were happily married for 38 years.
She was preceded in death by both parents: Anderson and Videlia Wheeler in Benton, MS.; one son Sylvester Williams of New York. She was the youngest of 14 children which has preceded her death.
She is survived by her husband Robert E. Porter; son Bobby Earl Williams (Angie); one brother Frank Wheeler of Wichita, KS.; sisters: Vickie Lavonne Williams (Keith), Mary Ann Williams, Wanda Brown Hayes of Mississippi, and Jessica McKinney of New York; stepsons: Ronald Porter Jr. of California (Darlene), and Sheldon Porter of Kansas.; stepdaughter Karen Porter Simonton of Missouri; 3 grandkids; 7 great grandkids; Carrie Moore, Dellioh Scott, Tina Mackey, Easter Coleman, Hattie Ramson, Shelly Williams, and a host of other relatives and friends.
