Dorothy Denese Pouncil

Dorothy Denese (Holman) Pouncil, age 71, of Independence, Missouri, passed away on March 13, 2026, surrounded by her loving family. She was born on October 2, 1954, in Austin, Texas, to Mason Ozell Holman and Theodus Mae (Lyons) Taylor, and was lovingly raised by her grandparents, James and Suzanne Lyons. Dorothy was preceded in death by her parents, grandparents, and one brother, Calvin E. Holman.

Dorothy grew into a woman defined by strength, compassion, and a deep devotion to her family.

Dorothy proudly served over 30 years with the Internal Revenue Service, where she was known for her dedication, reliability, and unwavering work ethic. Her career reflected the same qualities she carried into every part of her life — steadiness, integrity, and a quiet strength that uplifted those around her.

Outside of her professional life, Dorothy embraced the world with curiosity and joy. She loved to travel, exploring new places, and creating memories that her family will forever cherish. She also enjoyed the excitement and fun of visiting the casino, where she found laughter, entertainment, and moments of pure enjoyment. At home, Dorothy’s heart belonged to her beloved dogs, who were her loyal companions and brought her comfort and unconditional love.

Dorothy was the proud mother of six children who cherish and celebrate her life, well lived: Kimberly Holman, Michelle Holman Sutton, and spouse, Kendall Sutton, Laquedra Holman, Herbert Holman, Phinita Holman and Gregory Holman. 

Dorothy raised her family with love, resilience, and a deep sense of faith. Her children were her greatest joy, and she instilled in them the values of kindness, responsibility, and unity.
