Listen to Obituary

Dwight Bowman was born on March 15, 1947, to Mildred Bowman.

As a young boy he worked various jobs. He would sweep the wooden floors at the neighborhood candy store in exchange for a few pieces of candy.

As an adult, he worked in various jobs; home insurance and policy sales and Avon. After 25 years with Hostess Bread/Manor Bakery, he decided to retire.

Under the leadership and guidance of Rev. Charles Bell Jr. of Community Missionary Church, Dwight directed the senior choirs and the youth choirs until his health began to fail. He remained very active in his church and was always willing to travel to churches in and around the city to pray, preach, and/or sing. He loved working for the Lord.

As a leader and a protector of his family, Dwight modeled love, forgiveness, fatherhood, and an unwavering commitment to God. His wisdom, humor, and willingness to help others was always on full display, as he was a foster Dad to many relatives and young friends. Dwight passed away peacefully with his wife and sons at his bedside. He is and will be missed by many who knew him and loved him.

Dwight leaves in God’s loving care his wife of 24 years, Patrice; his sons: Kevin (RaSean), Dwight Jr., and James; and his daughter, Priscella (Michael) Parker of Arlington, Texas.

He is also survived by his grandsons: Kajah, Delshawn, Marquis, Ken Morian, and Michael Parker Jr.; granddaughters: Joselyn Bowman and Maci Parker; siblings: Ricky Taylor, Cecile Taylor, and Verma Taylor of Detroit; a special niece, Donna White of Raytown, Missouri; and stepchildren: Malcolm Whittington, Ezra Barr, Ericka Barr, and Edric Barr, and a special nephew, Garrett Whittington, all of California, also survives him.

His granddaughter, Jalyn Bowman, preceded “Papa” in death and held his hand as he entered the heavenly gates.

Dwight will be sadly missed by his wife, children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren, extended family and friends, and Lincoln High School Class of 1965.
