Earl Wayne Weatherspoon, 71, passed away on September 29, 2022, at Delmar Gardens of Lenexa in Lenexa, Kansas. He was born on January 14, 1951, in Augusta, Arkansas to Eli Weatherspoon and Ruth (Rickmon) Weatherspoon. He grew up in Kansas City, Missouri. He graduated from Manual High School in Kansas City, Missouri. After high school, he joined the United States Air Force in 1972 and served for 6 years, during which he achieved the rank of Sergeant. After his military service, Earl Wayne attended the University of Missouri at Kansas City where he received a Bachelor of Arts in English. He began work for the Missouri State Highway Patrol as a state trooper, where he worked for nearly 10 years. Earl Wayne was known as a brilliant artist, a basketball and tennis fan, and an ardent music lover who shared his collection with friends and family at every opportunity.

Earl Wayne married Sarah Augusta Franks on November 24, 1979, in Kansas City, Missouri. They were happily married for 43 years. He was preceded in death by his parents, Eli and Ruth Weatherspoon; and his sisters, Gladys C. McMurray and Rilla M. Weatherspoon.

He is survived by his wife, Sarah A. Weatherspoon; two sons: Michael E. Butler of Overland Park, KS and Rodney D. Butler (Timichalla) of Huntsville, AL; two daughters: Tynisa L. Jones of Overland Park, KS, and Sade M. L. Weatherspoon (Reginald II) of Raytown, MO; one step-daughter: Nikisha M. Jackson (Sean) of Waxahachie, TX; his brothers: William Weatherspoon, Kenneth H. Weatherspoon (Jacqueline), and Minister Victor Weatherspoon, all of Kansas City, MO, and Reverend Ralph Weatherspoon (Lavell) of Houston, TX; his sisters: Ugarnda Peltier (Cleo) and Carlotta Roberts (Mack), both of Kansas City, MO; 18 grandchildren; 19 great-grandchildren; and a host of nieces, nephews, family, and friends.

The family wishes to extend their gratitude to Delmar Gardens of Lenexa, the Veterans Administration, and all who called, visited, and sent condolences to the family.
