Edwin K. Rucker was born on May 25, 1959 at KU Medical Center in Kansas City, Kansas to Hubert Rucker, Sr. and Lorraine Rucker. He departed this life on April 16, 2024 at Kansas City Hospice and Palliative Care, in Kansas City, Missouri. He grew up in Kansas City, Missouri, where he attended Kansas City public schools.  After his education at Central High School, he attended culinary school in Texas and was awarded a certificate in Culinary Arts.

He worked as a Chef for various upscale restaurants in the Kansas City area for many years. He also worked with Kansas City Parks and Recreation / Public Works Departments, driving snowplows for the city.

He became a member of St. Mark Missionary Baptist Church and later joined the fellowship at Dayspring Pentecostal Church where he enjoyed volunteering in the church Food Pantry.

Edwin was preceded in death by his parents Hubert and Lorraine Rucker, spouse Betsy Hanson Rucker, daughter Sierra, stepson Keith, siblings Gwen, Bonnie and Ronnie.

He is survived by siblings Hubert Rucker, Jr., Pastor Noreta (Elder Johnnie) Anderson, Chauncey (Brenda) Rucker, Jennifer Powell, Raymond Rucker, granddaughter Arreis, significant other of 11 years Nicole Williams, three step-sons Antwon and Michael Hanson, and Nikai Williams, step-daughter Rajanae Walker, step-grandson Domez Walker, two step-granddaughters Leilani and Royalty Williams, Tonya Canady (Sierra’s mother) as well as a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends—all of whom loved him and will miss him dearly.
