Listen to Obituary

Eliza Davis (Liz), age 76, passed away peacefully at home January 1, 2019. She was born February 24, 1942 in Montgomery, Alabama to Milas Smith and Eliza Germany who preceded her in death. She was one of thirteen children. Siblings who preceded her in death: Billy Smith, Ella Bell Smith, Dora White, Izell (Ike) Smith, Milas (Buster) Smith, Porter Smith and Arwilla (Tea) Morland. Jasmine Greer (Grandchild). Surviving Siblings are: Mary Ash, Betty Jean Robinson, Dorothy Hightower, Lucille McGlothen, and Madison (Bell) Smith.

Eliza attended George Washington Carver. Eliza met her husband Louis Davis who preceded her in death in Montgomery. Eliza and Louis married in 1963 and the newlyweds moved to Kansas City, Missouri in 1965.

Eliza was a member of the Metropolitan Missionary Baptist Church. Eliza also courageously joined one of the first groups of African Americans to work at Research Hospital as a nurse’s aide. While working at Research Hospital Eliza gained the experience, she needed to earn her a 20 year career working as a office medical assistant for Doctors Carl and Francis Foster M.D.’s.

The greatest joys of Eliza’s life were her two sons: Louis Davis Jr. and Reginald Davis. After Eliza’s boys were born her hands were rarely still while she sewed each and every outfit that her boys wore growing up. In Eliza’s later years her sewing room became her favorite room, where she would relax, watch television and call family and friends, insuring herself that everyone was content and happy.

Eliza’s sons’ favorite things about their mother was that she had the biggest heart they had ever known, and that her encouraging words will live on in the depths of their souls forever. Eliza’s life was a living example of the Bible verse, Ephesians 4:32 — “And be kind and compassionate to one another, forgiving one another, just as GOD also forgave you in CHRIST.”

Eliza will be missed by her enormous family because she touched the lives of so many members of her beloved, shining, happy family. The lights in their lives and the bright shooting stars left in their hearts, leaves everyone smiling through their tears. Eliza was joy personified.

Eliza Davis will be remembered by her sons: Louis Davis Jr. and Reginald Davis; Her grandchild: Louis Davis III, her great grandchildren: Tai Yon Young, Taliyah Young and Lorenzo Davis; and a host of dear family members and friends.
