Ella Dixon-Liles

Ella was affectionately known to family and friends as "Strut." She was born in Lake Providence, LA on March 21, 1944 to the late Roosevelt and Lennie B. Mitchell. The family later moved to Vicksburg, MS where Ella attended Vicksburg Public School until she graduated. Ella accepted Christ at a very young age, she loved working diligently in her church. "Ella loved her church and pastor." Later in life Ella moved to Chicago, IL with her two sons. Ella worked many years as a cook and a personal care provider until she retired. After retirement Ella decided to grace Kansas City, MO with her presence. Ella was a devoted and loving member of Spring Hill Baptist Church under the leadership of Pastor Dennis Honeycutt. Ella was a Mother of the church, Sunday School teacher, member of the cooking committee, Usher Board and the choir. Ella was committed to the Lord, her pastor, and her church, in that order! She was adored by many friends, family and church family. On Saturday, October 29, 2016 in Kansas City, MO, Ella transitioned from life on earth to eternal rest. Her loving presence will forever be remembered. Ella was preceded in death by her youngest son, Randy Dixon; two sisters, "Delores "Lolo" Clavelle and Christen Turner; and one brother, Willie Simpson. She leaves to cherish her memories her husband, Sam Liles of Kansas City, MO; two sons, Clifton and Michael Simpson of Kansas City, MO; Three sisters, Delilah Simpson of Racine, WI, Shirley Campbell and Sandra "Dee Dee" Simpson of Kansas City, MO; Four brothers, Kenneth (Cynthia) Simpson of Hephzibah, GA, Johnny (Cheryl) Simpson of Vicksburg, MS; Sam (Dorothy) Simpson of Kansas City, MO; Joseph Simpson of Vicksburg, MS; and a host of other relatives.
